According to Italian reports, Sir Alex Ferguson is a fan of Max Allegri and would support him as the next Manchester United manager.

Despite being only six games into the season, there’s chatter about a managerial change at Old Trafford following a disappointing start to the campaign. The Red Devils have already suffered three losses, with their latest defeat against Tottenham increasing the pressure on Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag was retained over the summer despite a lacklustre season, but rumours are already swirling about his possible exit. If he does get the sack, Allegri, who is currently without a club, is likely to be a top contender for the job – particularly given that he reportedly has Ferguson’s backing, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The future of Ten Hag could hinge on this week’s two away games. On Thursday, they travel to Porto for a Europa League match after drawing their recent European game against Twente. The Portuguese team is considered one of the favourites to win the tournament.

After that, they face Aston Villa – a team that could potentially challenge them for a top-four spot. If both games result in losses for United, then Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team may have no choice but to make a change, even though they just gave Ten Hag a new contract in the summer.

Allegri was once in the running for the Manchester United job during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign, and even had an offer from Real Madrid before he decided to return to Juventus for a second spell.

If United decide to look for a new manager, Thomas Tuchel is likely to be high on their list. Talks were held last summer after his departure from Bayern Munich, but both parties decided to part ways. Tuchel’s Premier League experience with Chelsea could give him an edge.

He’s also a Champions League winner, and his straightforward approach might be just what United need as they struggle to perform up to expectations. Reports suggest that Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi, who guided the Italian team to domestic and European glory, is also in the running.
