Chelsea lock horns with Manchester United this evening with both clubs out to ease the mounting pressure on their respective managers.

The former Premier League title rivals both face a pivotal week to avoid failing to achieve their respective European targets.

Chelsea had to settle for a 2-2 draw at the weekend against a relegation-threatened Burnley side that played a man down for a large portion of the game.

United have aspirations to reclaim their Champions League spot but they took a blow after a 1-1 draw against Brentford.

Chelsea vs Man United: Pre-match facts

Chelsea have won six of their eight evening kick-offs (7pm or later) in the Premier League this season (L2), having failed to win any of their nine evening games in the competition last term (D3 L6).

Chelsea have both scored and conceded in 19 different Premier League games this season, last doing so more often in 2019-20 (22). They’ve done so in each of their last seven league matches, their longest such run since a run of nine between January and April 2017.

Cole Palmer scored Chelsea’s goal in their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the reverse fixture. The last Blues player to score home and away against Man Utd in the same Premier League campaign was Juan Mata (2012-13), while the last English player to do so was Frank Lampard (2010-11).

Palmer

In a season of inconsistency and some awful individual performances, Cole Palmer has been outstanding for Chelsea.

He’s their top goalscorer and has a perfect record from the penalty spot,

But he’s also a creative player and has done everything he can to ensure Chelsea score goals.

Unfortunately, some of his teammates haven’t been on the same level as the England international, who has been a superb signing.

Out of place

Given this match is at Stamford Bridge, it is strange to see Mason Mount’s shirt in red rather than blue.

Ten Hag discusses performances

It would be fair to say that Manchester United were beyond hopeless against Brentford.

The Bees battered the Red Devils from start to finish, recording the most shots in their Premier League history and having over 80 touches in the Man United box.

The game followed an international break and Erik ten Hag has suggested that his players are being pushed to their limit.

Chelsea vs Man United: Pre-match facts

Manchester United have won just one of their last nine Premier League away games against London sides (D3 L5), losing four of their last six. They’ve lost three of their five such visits this season, last losing more in a single top-flight campaign in 1989-90 (4).

Chelsea are winless in their last six Premier League games in April (D2 L4), since beating West Ham 1-0 in 2022. At home, they’ve won just one of their last 10 in April (D3 L6), losing five of the last seven at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United have won more games (80) and have a higher win percentage (59.7%) in the month of April than any other side in Premier League history. However, they’ve won just one of their last seven away games in the month (D2 L4), beating Nottingham Forest 2-0 last year.

Chelsea vs Man United: Team news

Right, so Chelsea are incredibly unchanged despite dropping a horrible display against Burnley.

Mauricio Pochettino must feel he will get a response from his team.

Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag has dropped Marcus Rashford for Antony.

Harry Maguire replaces Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount is on the bench for his Stamford Bridge return.

Casemiro also comes into the side for Scott McTominay.

Huge game

This is how the Premier League table stands ahead of this match.

If Man United win, they will move within eight points of Aston Villa and clear of the chasing pack.

A draw would do neither team much good, while a win for the Boues would take them into the top ten.

Remember, both teams are coming into this one off the back of two dreadful displays against Burnley and Brentford, respectively.

The Blues failed to beat the ten-man Clarets and were booed off, while United shipped 30 shots to the Bees and somehow got a draw.

Return for Mount

Mason Mount’s return to Chelsea is a big talking point ahead of tonight.

The England international was a Cobham academy graduate, but he couldn’t agree a new deal with the Blues and departed for Man United last summer.

He was one of Erik ten Hag’s top targets, but after a slow start at Old Trafford, Mount suffered an injury and has been out for a long time.

He scored his first Red Devils goal against Brentford on Saturday, and it will be fascinating to see what sort of reception he gets from those who used to worship him.

Chelsea vs Man United: Pre-match facts

Chelsea are winless in their last 12 Premier League games against Manchester United (D7 L5), their longest ever run without a league victory against the Red Devils.

Manchester United are looking to complete the Premier League double over Chelsea for just the second time, previously doing so in the 2019-20 campaign.

Manchester United are looking to win three consecutive league games against Chelsea for the first time since September 1965. They’re unbeaten in their last five league visits to Stamford Bridge, though four of these have ended level (W1).

Chelsea vs Man United: Team news

The hosts have been plagued with injuries all season and are without many players again.

Wesley Fofana, Romeo Lavia, Reece James and Ben Chilwell are among the players who are set to miss out for Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Man United have been deprived of Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof for a month due to calf and hamstring issues, respectively.

Luke Shaw is still out, along with Tyrell Malacia, who hasn’t played a single minute this season.

Fallen giants

Hello, and welcome to talkSPORT.com’s live coverage of Chelsea’s home game against Manchester United.

These are two of the only teams to win the Premier League since its creation in 1992.

However, when they once fought for titles, both sides are now battling to get into any form of European competition.

Man United are sixth but have lots of teams breathing down their neck, with the top four slipping away, while the Blues are 12th.

Both sides are chaotic and inconsistent, so who knows what is going to happen.
