Jones Knows: City to win on the road…
Sky Sports’ betting expert Lewis Jones:
There’s a new ruthlessness about Manchester City, not just with the ball, but without it.
The headlines might still go to the monster that is Erling Haaland, but equally as important is their defensive solidity. Led by the colossus Ruben Dias and the commanding presence of Gianluigi Donnarumma, this is a side that has rediscovered the art of control and clean sheets. The Italian goalkeeper has conceded just four goals in eight games.
The market still gives Villa plenty of respect at home – and understandably so, given their record of losing just one of their last 22 Premier League home games. However, dig a little deeper and Villa’s expected goals numbers in the Premier League are still underwhelming at just 0.86 per 90 – only four teams have a lower average.
City are taken to see them off.
SCORE PREDICTION: 0-2

Phil Foden, Oscar Bobb and Tijjani Reijnders all come back into the Man City XI as Pep Guardiola makes three changes to the side which beat Villarreal in the Champions League in midweek.

Two changes for Villa
Unai Emery makes two changes to the Aston Villa side that beat Tottenham 2-1 in their last Premier League outing.
Evann Guessand, after scoring his first goal for the club in midweek during the 2-1 loss to Go Ahead Eagles in Europe, makes way for Emi Buendia.
Buendia scored the winner at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and is rewarded with a return to the starting line-up here.
Donyell Malen also drops to the bench, with Ollie Watkins replacing him.

Emery reveals reason behind lack of Elliot minutes
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has suggested competition for places is the reason for Harvey Elliott’s lack of game time since securing a loan move to the Midlands in the summer.
On loan from Liverpool, the 22-year-old signed for Villa in an initial season-long deal with an obligation to buy worth £35m.
The England U21 international has found minutes hard to come by, having just started in two of his five Villa appearances so far.
Elliott was also an unused substitute for the third successive game during Thursday night’s Europa League defeat at Go Ahead Eagles.
Asked about Elliott, Emery said: “Harvey [Elliott] is a No 10 in our structure and shape. He played some matches but still needs to adapt to add himself individually in our structure the task we have.
“Of course, he’s training well. His commitment has been very well as well, but his performances were not enough until today.
“At the same time we have other players that can play as a No 10 and they are performing well.”

No Rodri return for Villa trip
Rodri will again be absent for Man City’s trip to Aston Villa after sitting out the midweek Champions League tie at Villarreal through injury.
The Spanish midfielder was forced off at Brentford with a hamstring complaint before the international complaint and despite assuring Sky Sports he was fine after that game, he has not featured for the club since.
Abdukodir Khusanov also missed the trip to Spain and is closing in on a recovery, but Sunday’s game comes too soon for the Uzbekistan defender.
“He’s close but he’s not ready. He had an injury in a dangerous position in his body,” Pep Guardiola said on Friday.

Welcome!
Hello and welcome to Sky Sports’ digital coverage of Aston Villa vs Man City, live on Super Sunday!
Pep Guardiola’s side have the chance to move to the top of the Premier League table if results fall their way this afternoon.
They’d need to beat Villa today and will also require Crystal Palace to secure all three points against leaders Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Unai Emery’s men can shift through a tightly contested top half and could move as high as fifth with a win.
A lot to play for! Villa vs City is always a good contest.

Pep: Nunes can be one of the best right-backs
Man City boss Pep Guardiola says Matheus Nunes can become “one of the best” right-backs in the world after the bright start the Brazilian has made this season.
Nunes filled in as a makeshift role last season but struggled in an unfamiliar position, having failed to nail down a slot in the City side since his 2023 move from Wolves, where he played as a defensive midfielder.
Perhaps the 27-year-old’s breakthrough moment may prove to have come against Sunday’s opponents Aston Villa last season, when his late winner helped act as a springboard for City to qualify for the Champions League.
Nunes has finally made the right-back spot his own during this campaign, partly thanks to injuries elsewhere, but now Guardiola is backing his player to become among the world’s elite as he enters his prime years.
“His goal against Villa helped us to be in the Champions League this season, it was a battle against Aston Villa for many clubs,” he said.
“He can be an incredible right-back. He’s a holding midfielder with incredible physicality, and he can become one of the best [at right-back]. It’s a question of him now. It’s about him feeling it.
“He has special attributes to play on the sides. In the last two or three games he has played unbelievable.”
