Wayne Rooney offered some advice to Man Utd new boy Aaron Wan-Bissaka this week and it showed that there is a role for former players at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney knows exactly what awaits Aaron Wan-Bissaka when the full-back begins his Manchester United career.

 

 

Few United players have generated the kind of excitement on arrival at Old Trafford that an 18-year-old Rooney did in the summer of 2004. Signing the wonderkid of English football was a coup for United, but it was a burden to carry for the teenager, even if he made it look light work with his debut hat-trick against Fenerbache.

 

 

 

Rooney’s was a United career full of highs and lows. He left Old Trafford as the club’s record goal scorer but he had his dark days too. It was a 13-year stay packed with experiences.

 

So when Rooney tells Wan-Bissaka what to expect now he’s swapped the serene Crystal Palace for the Manchester United maelstrom, the 21-year-old would be well advised to take note.

 

“Enjoy it, play with no fear,” Rooney told Sky Sports about Wan-Bissaka.

 

“Manchester United is a fantastic club, one of if not the best football clubs in the world. He’ll have to embrace it, embrace the culture of Manchester United and the history.

 

 

“Go and do your best. I’m sure he’ll be fine and I’m sure the coaches will be telling him all this.”
