Manchester United make final decision on Harry Maguire transfer exit this summer

The England centre-half, 31, could be offloaded if Manchester United can find a buyer with the ex-Leicester man entering final year of his contract and the club looking to move on

Manchester United are ready to sell Harry Maguire this summer if they can find a buyer.

The England centre-half almost left 12 months ago before a potential switch to West Ham fell through. Maguire’s decision to stay put at Old Trafford paid off as he proved plenty of his critics wrong and established himself back in Erik ten Hag’s side. He even picked up a Premier League player of the month award along the way as he got back to near his best although he missed United’s FA Cup final win due to injury and the club did endure their worst-ever Premier League finish.

But Maguire is coming into the final year of his contract and the Red Devils risk losing the ex-Leicester star for free next summer unless they cash-in now.

Ten Hag is keen to bring in Bayern Munich centre-half Matthijs de Ligt and if that deal comes off, Maguire’s Old Trafford future will come under more scrutiny again.

The 31 year-old is thought to have admirers in Italy where fellow centre-half and ex-United team-mate Chris Smalling is excelling with Roma.

Maguire is currently battling back to fitness after missing the Euros due to a calf issue but reports suggest his club are ready to try for a second successive summer to offload him.

Raphael Varane has already departed on a free transfer while the club are open to offers for Victor Lindelof too.

Lisandro Martinez returned at the end of the season and will be No.1 choice next term, while Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite has been targeted. But United think the Toffees’ £70million valuation is much too high and subsequently turned to De Ligt, down the pecking order at Bayern, and having been captain for Ten Hag at former club Ajax.
