A Buckeye’s Perspective: DeVier Posey Recalls Ohio State’s Thrilling Rose Bowl Victory over Oregon

Columbus, OH – The Rose Bowl, one of the most iconic venues in college football, has been the stage for many memorable matchups over the years. For Ohio State fans, the 2010 Rose Bowl stands out as a particularly sweet memory, as the Buckeyes took down the Oregon Ducks 26-17. DeVier Posey, a wide receiver on that Ohio State team, still gets excited thinking about that game.

Posey, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, was a key contributor to the Buckeyes’ success during his time in Columbus. As a sophomore in 2009, he played a crucial role in Ohio State’s Big Ten Championship season, hauling in 60 receptions for 828 yards and 8 touchdowns. However, it was the Rose Bowl victory over Oregon that remains one of the highlights of his collegiate career.

“Oh, man, that was an incredible experience,” Posey recalled in a recent interview. “We had worked so hard all season, and to have the opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl was a dream come true. Beating Oregon, a team that was known for its high-powered offense, was just the icing on the cake.”

The 2010 Rose Bowl was a highly anticipated matchup, pitting the Buckeyes’ stingy defense against the Ducks’ explosive offense. Oregon, led by quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, had been averaging over 37 points per game, while Ohio State’s defense had been allowing just 12.2 points per contest.

Posey remembered the intensity of the game, particularly in the first half. “Oregon came out swinging, trying to get their offense going. But our defense was ready for them. We made some big plays, and our offense was able to capitalize on their mistakes.”

The Buckeyes took a 10-0 lead into halftime, thanks in part to a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Oregon fought back in the second half, but Ohio State’s defense held strong, limiting the Ducks to just 10 points in the final two quarters.

Posey’s own performance was notable, as he caught 5 passes for 70 yards, including a crucial 17-yard reception on 3rd-and-10 in the fourth quarter. The play helped seal the win for the Buckeyes, and Posey’s teammates mobbed him in celebration.

“That was an amazing feeling,” Posey said, smiling. “We had worked so hard as a team, and to have that moment of triumph was incredible. Beating Oregon in the Rose Bowl was a testament to our team’s dedication and perseverance.”

The 2010 Rose Bowl victory marked Ohio State’s first win in the game since 1997. For Posey and his teammates, it was a defining moment in their collegiate careers, one that they would cherish forever.

As the Buckeyes prepare to face off against their next opponent, Posey’s memories of that Rose Bowl win serve as a reminder of the program’s rich history and tradition of excellence. The lessons he learned on the field – about teamwork, discipline, and perseverance – have stayed with him to this day.
