A bombshell report has emerged in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s explosive post-match conference following Manchester United’s draw against Leeds United.

Man United were held 1-1 at Leeds on Sunday.

Brenden Aaronson opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, with Matheus Cunha equalising just three minutes later.

It’s back-to-back draws for Man United as fans questioned Amorim’s selection for their Elland Road fixture.

ADVERT

Speaking after the game, Amorim walked out of his press conference as he strongly indicated that he feels he should be given more power by claiming he wanted to be the club’s manager rather than the head coach.

He also hinted at when he could leave Old Trafford, name-dropping Antonio Conte, Thomas Tuchel and Jose Mourinho in the process.

“I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the head coach,” the 40-year-old exclaimed.

“I know my name is not [Antonio] Conte, [Thomas] Tuchel, or [Jose] Mourinho but I’m the manager of Manchester United.”

Amorim added: “It’s going to be like this for 18 months or until the board decide to change. I’m not going to quit.

“I’ll do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me.”

Just hours after his rant, a report from talkSPORT claims Amorim’s future at Man United is now in the ‘balance’.

ADVERT

His long-term position is viewed as ‘uncertain’ because of his fractured relationship with director of football Jason Wilcox, per the report.

The report states Amorim’s frustrations have boiled over after Man United’s hierarchy, including Wilcox, urged him to be more tactically flexible.

Omar Berrada is expected to back Wilcox if it comes down to a power struggle with the Portuguese, who also feels promises he would be allowed to add to his squad in this transfer window have been broken.

ADVERT

Man United are now planning for a quiet window, having been linked with the likes of Antoine Semenyo, who seems set to join Manchester City this month.

There are understood to be reservations in the boardroom regarding Amorim, which could explain why they don’t want to invest.

The Kobbie Mainoo situation has raised further doubts over Amorim, who has frozen out the star midfielder this season, with the board reluctant to sanction a transfer.
