Manchester United are no strangers to signing players from Real Madrid. In the past, many used to make the move from Old Trafford to Santiago Bernabeu. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and more swapped the red jersey for the royal white one. In recent years, things have been exactly the opposite.
Players like Angel Di Maria, Casemiro and Raphael Varane have joined Manchester United even though they were important players at Real Madrid when they left. That just goes to show how much football has changed over the past decade or so.
Manchester United have now added another former Real Madrid player to their ranks. But in his case, he had left the club back in 2020.
As reported by Manchester United’s official website, Sergio Reguilon has joined the club on loan from Tottenham Hotspur until the summer of 2024. The Spaniard said about his move to Old Trafford:
““In life you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down.“Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success.“I know that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am ready to fight for this group and show everyone my qualities.””

This is certainly a big chance for Reguilon. The Spanish left-back has never really found his feet anywhere and yet, he continues to find himself at some of the biggest clubs on the planet.
He had made quite a few senior-level appearances for Real Madrid but never was a regular feature in the starting XI. He went on to have a successful loan spell at Sevilla and was signed by Tottenham Hotspur in 2020.
Things did not really work out for him at the London club either. He spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid and will play for Manchester United this season, also on a temporary basis.
Reguilon might actually get some decent first-team chances at Manchester United, with the club in need of a left-back right now. It is up to the Spaniard what he makes of those opportunities though.
