After two stellar seasons at Stanford University, where she amassed a 41–10 record and a 0.67 ERA, Canady transferred to Texas Tech in July 2024. “I feel like we need to invest in women’s sports,” Canady told ESPN. “We saw it with women’s basketball this year: You invest in women’s sports, and women’s basketball just blew up on a national stage. I think the same thing has happened with softball… If I’m even a little part of that, that’s my whole dream.”

Blake Lawrence, CEO of Opendorse, a company specializing in NIL deals, remarked, “It’s absolutely unprecedented for an annual compensation for a D-1 softball player. Canady might be getting paid more than every single softball player in her conference combined.”

Canady’s impact at Texas Tech was immediate and profound. In the 2025 season, she posted a 34–7 record with a nation-leading 0.97 ERA and 317 strikeouts. Despite a challenging final game against Texas, where Canady was pulled after giving up five runs in the first inning, her performance throughout the season earned her the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and NFCA National Pitcher of the Year honors for the second consecutive year.
