Man City chairman finally breaks silence amid claims Pep Guardiola is quitting as boss

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been coy on his future with his contract with the Premier League champions set to expire next summer but chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak does not seem worried

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak says the club will find ‘the right solution’ for Pep Guardiola amid the suggestion the Catalan coach could depart the club.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss is set to enter the final year of his contract and already admitted following the end of the Premier League season that he is ‘closer to leaving than to staying’ with the club. Guardiola has spent eight years in the north west and enjoyed unprecedented success on his way to six Premier League titles in addition to a Champions League win.

It has often been pitched that the 53-year-old could depart the Etihad Stadium at the end of his current deal, and Guardiola has already spent a longer period with City than he managed in his previous managerial roles. The City boss has confirmed that he will remain in place for next season, but reports have increasingly stated he could be set to bring his trophy-laden spell to an end.

Speaking in his annual season debrief, Al Mubarak did not appear too concerned but remained coy on the prospect of the parties going their separate ways. The City chief expects to come up with a plan that works for both the club and its manager.

“We have had this conversation many times before, you know that, over the years of the contract,” Al Mubarak said. “Pep has always been fully committed to this club, fully committed to every contract that he has signed with us.

“This decision on his future is always a decision that we will take together, and I have no doubt that we will find, as always, we have done, the right solution that works for Pep and works for us.”

Al Mubarak also spoke highly of the role Guardiola has played at Manchester City. “It’s hard to put into words what Pep has given this organisation, this club,” he added.
