Manchester United’s first summer transfer has seemingly been confirmed as Joshua Zirkzee closes in on a move to the Premier League.
MEN Sport previously reported that talks between Zirkzee, Bologna and the Reds were progressing and United are confident they will be able to complete a deal before the month ends. The 23-year-old has a £33m release clause inserted into his contract at the Serie A club. On Friday, the former Bayern Munich forward arrived in the North West to undergo medical checks ahead of his €42.5million move.
United agreed a deal, worth £35m, despite the Holland international’s £34m release clause as the payments will be staggered over a three-year period as opposed to paying the fee upfront with the hope of completing the move as early as today (Friday).

The move for Zirkzee accelerated in light of Holland’s agonising Euro 2024 semi-final defeat at the hands of Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw’s England. Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins scored in stoppage time to send Gareth Southgate’s side through to Sunday’s final in Berlin, where they will meet Spain.
The Bologna forward made two appearances in Germany, both of which coming as late substitutes in the quarter final win over Turkiye and in the dying embers in Dortmund on Wednesday.
