COTTON BOWL CLASSIC POST-GAME PRESS CONFERENCE
Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian
THE MODERATOR: Good evening, everyone. Welcome to the Cotton Bowl Classic post-game press conference. We’re joined tonight by Texas Longhorns Head Coach Steve Sarkisian. Coach, congratulations on a great season. I know it didn’t end the way you wanted it to, but I’m sure you’re proud of your team’s effort tonight.
COACH SARKISIAN: Thank you. Yeah, I’m proud of our team’s effort. We fought hard, and we came up short. But I think we showed a lot of heart and a lot of grit. We just didn’t make enough plays to win the game.
THE MODERATOR: Can you talk about the decision to go for it on fourth down at the goal line? It seemed like a pretty aggressive call.
COACH SARKISIAN: Yeah, we felt like we had a good play called. We felt like we could get the ball in the end zone. We just didn’t execute it very well. We got stuffed at the line of scrimmage, and that was it.
THE MODERATOR: And what about the play call itself? Some people might say that was a pretty conservative call, going for a run play instead of a pass play.
COACH SARKISIAN: Yeah, I think that’s a fair criticism. We did consider throwing the ball, but we felt like the run play was the better call. We thought we could get the ball to the edge and get it into the end zone. It just didn’t work out that way.
THE MODERATOR: Quinn Ewers had a great game tonight. Can you talk about his performance?
COACH SARKISIAN: Quinn was outstanding. He made some great throws, and he made some great decisions. He’s a tough kid, and he competed his tail off. I’m proud of him.
THE MODERATOR: And what about the defense? They had a tough time stopping Ohio State’s offense tonight.
COACH SARKISIAN: Yeah, we struggled to stop them. They’ve got a great offense, and they’ve got a lot of talented players. We just couldn’t seem to get off the field on third down, and that hurt us.
THE MODERATOR: Coach, can you talk about the emotions in the locker room right now? I’m sure it’s a tough pill to swallow, losing a game like this.
COACH SARKISIAN: Yeah, it’s tough. The guys are hurting right now. They’re disappointed, and they’re frustrated. But we’ll bounce back. We’ll learn from this, and we’ll get better.
THE MODERATOR: Last question, Coach. What’s the message to your team right now?
COACH SARKISIAN: The message is that we’re proud of them. We’re proud of the way they fought, and we’re proud of the way they competed. We’ll learn from this, and we’ll get better. We’ll come back stronger next year.
THE MODERATOR: Thank you, Coach.
