Many of Manchester United’s players may be concentrating on Euro 2024 right now, but the cogs are spinning behind the scenes at Old Trafford as the club look to complete vital transfers.

It looks like neither Luke Shaw nor Kobbie Mainoo will start for England who face Slovenia in a vital group game this evening, but others like Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay have already featured heavily in the tournament.

On the transfer front, United continued to be linked with various strikers including Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna, while Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is a key target in defence. Michael Olise was of interest to United but is bound for Bayern Munich instead.

Recent transfer gossip has seen United linked with Lille’s youngster Leny Yoro and West Ham anchor-man Edson Alvarez, while Casemiro, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof have been touted for moves away from Old Trafford.

The Three Lions take on Slovenia tonight at 8pm but Shaw, who has not played since Manchester United’s victory at Luton Town in February, has failed to make the match-day squad.

Kobbie Mainoo, though, is involved in the squad and will be hoping to make his second appearance in this summer’s finals tonight.

Stay tuned throughout as we will post all the updates of the match in our blog.

United ‘bid’ for Ugarte ‘rejected’

Manchester United reportedly face competition from another Premier League club for Manuel Ugarte’s signature this summer.

That’s according to the i, who are reporting that sources in Paris are saying that United have made an offer for the 23-year-old Uruguayan.

However, the report further claims that the offer one was immediately rejected as it was “nowhere near” PSG’s valuation of the player they only signed last summer.

The report then adds that one other Premier League club have contacted PSG to enquire about Ugarte, with Bayern Munich and a Serie Aside getting in touch.

What Van Nistelrooy said about Ten Hag

Van Nistelrooy would not be shy to tell Ten Hag what he thinks the problems are with United if he is to become his assistant.

Analysing United’s 3-2 defeat to Arsenal in January 2023, he told Viaplay:

To be quite honest the score line flatters United as we were completely dominated in all aspects of the game. We got lucky scoring two goals that we didn’t really deserve, Rashford once again showing he is our best player. I was particularly disappointed with how easy it was for Arsenal to control the game. It was the same as the Old Trafford fixture with the exception that we didn’t get away with counters this time. I think you have to respect Mikel Arteta and how easy it was for him this season to dominate managers like Erik, Tuchel, Klopp and Conte. There is no shame in losing to a team like Arsenal this season but the way Ten Hag allowed United to be dominated is something that needs to improve. Bringing on Fred in the 70th minute confirmed that Erik had no confidence in this team and had accepted a draw.

OPINION – Van Nistelrooy has told Ten Hag what he wants to hear

Nothing excites a fanbase more than seeing a former player return to their club.

Manchester United supporters are going through that period of excitement currently as Ruud van Nistelrooy remains strongly linked with the Reds. It appears the ex-striker is currently weighing up his options between becoming the permanent manager of Championship club Burnley and an assistant coach at Old Trafford.

Should he take the latter job, it will be a welcome return for a player who left in a manner that he has since gone on to regret. From Erik ten Hag’s perspective, though, he will not be in the business of sentimentality.

Ex-United manager tipped for new job

Former United and West Ham manager David Moyes is the bookies’ favourite to become the next boss of the Scotland national team.

The home nation became the first team to exit Euro 2024 after a late 1-0 defeat to Hungary on Sunday. According to Gambling.com, there is a 57 per cent chance Moyes will replace Steve Clarke if he is sacked by the Scottish FA.

OPINION: United need to accept uncomfortable truth about Van Nistelrooy

Van Nistelrooy’s return to United has the potential to be one of the feel-good moments of the summer.

The Dutch striker left Old Trafford under a cloud after a fallout with Sir Alex Ferguson. Now in a heart-warming full circle moment, the 47-year-old could return to United in the dugout as one of Erik ten Hag’s assistants.

It would be a coup for United to bring in a personality like Van Nistelrooy as a coach. He completed a domestic double with PSV Eindhoven’s first team, winning the Dutch Cup and Dutch Super Cup during his one season in charge.

United urged to sign ‘incredible’ midfielder

Former Man United defender Paul Parker has urged his old club to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder and Denmark star Morten Hjulmand this summer.

“I think he has been incredible. I haven’t seen all his games at Sporting, but I’ve seen a few, and he has just completely dominated.,” he said via Football365.

“He became captain in Serie A at the age of 22, so that speaks of a kid with huge leadership qualities. Those are precisely the leadership qualities that Manchester United could use.

“When I look at him, I see in many ways a younger version of Casemiro, and that’s something Manchester United could really use. He is good with the ball, strong in duels, and he would take a bullet for his teammates. He’s a bit crazy, which is cool.”

Ugarte ‘offered to United’

It’s now being claimed by HITC that United have been offered the chance to sign Manuel Ugarte and that they are keen on a deal.

Reports linking Ugarte with a move to Old Trafford surfaced earlier today, with an unnamed Premier League club claimed to be set to battle United for the PSG star’s signature. It’s also claimed a number of European clubs are interested in Ugarte.

The 23-year-old Uruguay international made 25 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG last season yet looks to be on the move after just one season at Parc des Princes. He was signed from Sporting for £50m last summer but it’s unclear how much PSG would demand to allow him to leave.

Ferdinand on Rangnick’s Austria success

Rio Ferdinand admits he’s ‘looking at Austria with envy’ after their performances at Euro 2024 under Ralf Rangnick.

The former United interim boss is looking to guide Austria into the knockout stages with Rangnick’s side currently leading the Netherlands 1-0.

“Ralf Rangnick, have you seen what he’s doing with Austria? Wow, wow, wow,’ the former Three Lions defender said on the Five podcast.

“[Former England goalkeeper] David James did tell us Austria were going to be his dark horses and we were ridiculing it, we were laughing. I caned him and said, “What are you chatting about?.

“They’re not going to win it, but they’re playing really good football. The biggest thing for me is they look like a well-coached team.

“That’s all I’m asking for. A team that looks well-coached and know what they’re doing in and out of possession.

“They attack together, they run off the ball, out of possession they defend. They keep possession off the ball. Just basics, man, please. Why am I looking at Austria with envy?!”

Ugarte battle

It’s claimed by the BBC that United are one of a number of clubs interested in Manuel Ugarte, with an unnamed Premier League club among those chasing his signature.

Ugarte joined PSG last summer for €60m (£50m) yet he already looks set to move on from the French capital. United are in the market for a midfielder this summer, with Casemiro expected to leave Old Trafford.

The Brazil international was not included in his nation’s Copa America side this summer and is attracting interest from Saudi Pro League clubs.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s view on PSR

The Premier League’s PSR rules have continued to split opinion and earlier this month, Manchester United’s minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, warned the Premier League over the regulations. It is thought the club are confident that they will not fall foul of breaching PSR after a quiet January transfer window.

However, Ratcliffe has said the Premier League needs to be “careful” in how the regulations impact the 20 clubs. Speaking to Bloomberg, he said: “We’ve got more accountants than we’ve got sporting people at Manchester United.

“If you’re not careful, the Premier League is going to finish up spending more time in court than it is thinking about what’s good for the league.”

Opinion: Van Nistelrooy can help Man United

Towards the end of Ruud van Nistelrooy’s time as head coach at PSV Eindhoven there were suggestions of disquiet from players around his methods, but there is no denying the impact he had on some of them.

The 46-year-old former striker worked his way through the ranks at his former club, joining as an under-17s coach in 2013 and becoming the striker coach for the under-17s, under-19s and reserves in 2016, before finally ascending to the top job in 2022.

He lasted just one season at the club before leaving over a disagreement about how much support he had, but during his time there he certainly had an impact on Cody Gakpo, a transfer target for Manchester United before his January 2023 move to Liverpool.

Ten Hag contract deadline

Man United are ‘hoping to finalise’ Erik ten Hag’s new contract at Old Trafford before the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

The Red Devils will prepare for the new season with another trip Stateside after they visited the nation 12 months ago. The Times have claimed that talks are progressing and there is ‘intent’ to reach an agreement before the trip.

That timeframe means we could see an announcement in the next three or four weeks.

Dalot future captain

Manchester United right back Diogo Dalot is regarded as a potential future captain of the club.

Sources say Dalot has emerged as a contender to eventually replace the influential Bruno Fernandes. Dalot signed a five-year contract in May 2023 that would take him to a decade’s service with United if it is seen out.

There are only a handful of senior starters in the United squad who are all but certain to stay beyond the closure of the transfer window. Dalot has generated widespread interest in recent summers but has no intention of leaving.

Ugarte interest

Well then, it seems that another midfielder is on Man United’s radar in PSG’s Manuel Ugarte.

According to Lyall Thomas at Sky Sports, United are interested in the Uruguay defensive midfielder. Ugarte only joined PSG last summer from Sporting CP after they beat Chelsea to his signature.

He played 37 times for the French giants in all competitions.

It is said that they have already made a £14m bid which is being considered by Boca.

Chelsea are also said to be keen on the South American wonderkid.

Three-way Lookman chase

Man United, Liverpool and Chelsea are all chasing Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman, according to reports in Italy.

The Nigeria international scored 17 goals and 10 assists last season, including a hat-trick in the 3-0 Europa League final win over Bayer Leverkusen. Calciomercato have claimed that Atalanta would only sell the 26-year-old if there’s an ‘irrefutable’ offer.

A €60m price tag has been set, with the report claiming that United would be ‘willing to make an offer’ close to that fee.

Sancho offered to Barcelona

Barcelona’s long-term hunt for a new attacking winger looks to be visiting Man United. Athletic Club star Nico Williams is their top priority with Luis Diaz also on their agenda, but Jadon Sancho has reportedly been offered to them.

Due to their financial situation, deals for Williams and Diaz remain unlikely. Spanish outlet SPORT has reported that Sancho has been offered to the Spanish giants with new head coach Hansi Flick liking the winger’s profile.

However, only a loan deal would be considered by Barca.

Branthwaite decisive moment

Jarrad Branthwaite remains a priority for Man United but Everton’s valuation of the centre-back continues to prove to be difficult to overcome.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that conversations remain ongoing with United and his agent, but the Toffee’s FFP situation means it’s unclear whether a deal can be struck.

Speaking on The United Stand, he said: “Jarrad Branthwaite remains a strong option for #mufc, as the player is keen to join. Conversations with his agents are ongoing.

‘The situation depends on Everton’s financial decisions this week, particularly regarding Financial Fair Play and player sales. Everton’s asking price for Branthwaite is around £65-70 million, which Manchester United is unlikely to pay.

‘The player is waiting for United’s decision, which will be influenced by Everton’s position.”

Rabiot boost

Adrien Rabiot is a midfielder on United’s radar to bolster their midfield this summer as he closes in on the expiry of his contract at Juventus.

And it seems as though the Serie A side are looking elsewhere, leaving the door wide open for United. Gazzetta dello Sport has suggested that Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram is keen on a move to Turin.

The midfielder, who has been linked with a move to the Premier League, could come in to leave Rabiot’s future incredibly certain to be away.

Everton need to sell

Well, Everton thought they were sorted in terms of FFP with the Dominic Calvert-Lewin deal but that is now off.

Now, according to David Ornstein at The Athletic, the Toffees still need to sell before June 30. They continue to have PSR issues and if they fail to sell players before Sunday, they would be put at a huge risk of yet another FFP breach.

Branthwaite is still a target for Man United but it’s hard to see such a big deal be concluded before then.

European journalist Christopher Michel had tweeted: “Casemiro’s transfer to Saudi Arabia fell through a few days ago. Negotiations were at an advanced stage, but it didn’t work out.”

However Romano, speaking to The United Stand, said: “No it’s not true from what I’m hearing [that the deal is off]. Casemiro is keen on joining Saudi, but it has to be on his conditions.
