Manchester United look set to complete signing number one this summer as Fabrizio Romano rolls out his famous ‘Here we go’.

The transfer window has been ticking by rather slowly for Manchester United, completing zero deals since it opened a month ago. But that has all changed on Thursday afternoon.

Fabrizio Romano brought the long-awaited news, tweeting ‘Here we go’ in regards to the deal to bring Joshua Zirkzee to Old Trafford.

Less than 24 hours after he was knocked out of the Euros with Holland, he’s now got his move and will be part of a dangerous-looking strike duo with Rasmus Hojlund.

But the deal might not be on the same terms we’ve been led to believe as Romano explains the details around the move including the fact that United aren’t paying the release clause.

New details behind Manchester United signing Joshua Zirkzee

Ineos have got their man. Signing number one in the new era is done, and it’s a move which is very exciting and shows tremendous ambition.

But upon announcing that a deal was done, Romano added some new details around the move which came as a surprise.

He explained: “Manchester United will not trigger the [release] clause but pay slightly above €40m (£34m) with better payment terms, [over the course of] three years.”

So instead of United triggering the clause which would have required the entire fee to be paid immediately, Ineos has negotiated a fee which might be more, but that can be paid over three years, thus being less of a blow on this summer’s budget.

This not only helps the transfer budget but also looks good on the books for PSR as it will see the club spending less.

Romano also revealed that Zirkzee’s contract is a five-year deal, running until 2029 with the option of a further year being available.

This was seconded by David Ornstein who confirmed the fee would be €42.5m (£35.7m) spread over three years. Zirkzee is now scheduled to fly into the UK on Thursday night ahead of a medical on Friday.

Ineos get the ball rolling on transfers

At long last, Ineos has secured signing number one for the summer and interestingly it came less than a day removed from Holland’s Euro 2024 exit – after which he met Kobbie Mainoo for the first time.

This could now see United quite rapidly secure the three deals which appear close. These are for Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt – who has told Bayern Munich he wants to move – and Manuel Ugarte, now that they are no longer in their respective international tournaments.

Signing Zirkzee is an excellent start in rebuilding the squad and is an exciting look into things yet to come this summer with experts and smart footballing brains making decisions.

To avoid the release clause is a masterstroke and Dan Ashworth is already paying off if it’s his idea to do so. Finally, a proper footballing structure is at Old Trafford and it’s a sight to behold.
