Manchester United are not expected to make a bid for Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson, it has been claimed. The 24-year-old has emerged as a potential transfer target for United, as Ruben Amorim tries to strengthen his attack.
Reports claimed on Sunday that United have held talks with Jackson’s representative Ali Barat over a potential blockbuster move to Old Trafford. The Senegal international scored 13 times and grabbed six assists in 37 appearances for the Blues during the 2024/25 season.
However, he appeared to drop down the pecking order at the Club World Cup following his red card against Flamengo and the double arrival of Liam Delap and Joao Pedro. Indeed, after returning from suspension, Jackson played just 30 minutes in Chelsea’s four knockout fixtures.
Speculation has since increased around Jackson’s future at Stamford Bridge, with United reportedly expressing an interest and holding talks with his agent. But the Reds are not anticipated to make an offer for the ex-Villarreal man, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.
It’s added that a lot would have to change for that to alter in the coming weeks. A deal is not considered impossible due to United’s respect for Jackson, who has come up in an internal meeting with the club’s board, but a possible move has been ‘downplayed’, as it stands.
The update comes a matter of hours after Sky Sports reported that Chelsea value Jackson at between £80m and £100m. If he was to leave west London in the summer transfer window, the £79m Liverpool are paying for Hugo Ekitike, including add-ons, would be used as a benchmark for any potential deal.
United are expected to ramp up their chase for a centre forward after getting a deal across the line for Bryan Mbeumo on Monday night. Amorim’s side have paid £65million plus £6m in add-ons to secure the services of the Cameroon international, who has signed a five-year contract at the Reds.
Mbeumo, 25, has become United’s third summer arrival after Matheus Cunha made the £62.5m move from Wolves at the start of last month and Diego Leon signed from Cerro Porteno for £3.3m plus add-ons.
