Marcus Rashford has admitted he considered leaving Manchester United before Erik ten Hag took charge of the club.
Rashford scored a career-best 30 goals last season in Ten Hag’s first campaign in charge and signed a new five-year contract earlier this month. It was a different picture last summer, with Rashford coming off an injury-ravaged season in which he managed just five goals, with his form and confidence at rock-bottom.
Rashford, 25, admitted leaving his boyhood club was a realistic prospect at his lowest ebb, with his representatives having held talks with Paris St Germain. But Ten Hag’s arrival proved the difference, with the Dutchman’s man-management helping Rashford to his best-ever season at Old Trafford.

Asked if he had ever thought about leaving United, Rashford said: “Before the manager came, maybe a little bit, but it’s football, it happens. Everything is going to happen for a reason and he came to the club at the right time for me, the timing worked out.
“Now the conversation is a little bit different because I think it’s clear, the manager is very ambitious and has been since the minute he stepped in. I didn’t really have doubt in my mind about that.
“I’m hungry to keep improving, for the players and the staff to keep improving and getting used to each other, pushing ourselves to be better than we were the year before. Ultimately, that’s the only way we’re going to get back to winning trophies consistently.”
