Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up Thomas Tuchel as a potential replacement for Erik ten Hag, who is under pressure following consecutive losses, including a recent defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford. Despite only being three games into the season, Ten Hag’s position is already under scrutiny, with many of last season’s issues still apparent.

The Dutchman was given a vote of confidence in the summer, with the club’s hierarchy backing him and making several signings. However, contingency plans have been drawn up, with Tuchel seen as the ideal candidate.

The German manager left Bayern Munich trophyless last season but has previously impressed at Borussia Dortmund, PSG and Chelsea, where he clinched the Champions League. Sir Jim Ratcliffe held talks with Tuchel over the summer before deciding to stick with Ten Hag.

According to the Daily Mail, Gareth Southgate, who recently ended his eight-year tenure as England boss, is not on United’s radar.

The former England boss is attracting attention from top-flight clubs and is eager to showcase his managerial prowess at club level, though he’s expected to take a break following his tenure with the national team.

Despite whispers of doubt, Erik ten Hag has emphatically stated his credentials as the man to bring glory back to Manchester. He’s clinched silverware in consecutive seasons, yet last year’s dismal domestic league performance cast a shadow over those triumphs.

Manchester City’s CEO Omar Berrada has thrown his full support behind Ten Hag, stating: “Erik has our full backing and we have worked very closely together, as Dan has said before, in this transfer window.

“We’re going to continue working very closely with him to help him get the best results out of the team. Do we still believe in Erik? Absolutely. We think Erik is the right coach for us and we’re fully backing him.”
