Danny Murphy insists Manchester United must sack Erik ten Hag if they want to compete at the top of the Premier League again.

 

 

Ten Hag is coming under increasing scrutiny at United after overseeing yet another dismal defeat against Bournemouth on Saturday. Dominic Solanke, Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi were on the scoresheet for Andoni Iraola’s side, who were unlucky not to have won by more than 3-0.

 

 

United looked to be on the up after three straight Premier League wins earned Ten Hag the Manager of the Month award for November and he followed that up with a convincing 2-1 victory over Chelsea in midweek. But defeat against the Cherries has seen the mood sour quickly and Murphy has urged club chiefs to make a decision.

“If United want to dine at English football’s top table again, Ten Hag is not the manager to take them there,” Murphy wrote in his column for the Mail on Sunday.

 

“United just cannot compete with City, Liverpool and Arsenal with the players they have under Ten Hag. I don’t see a team that’s progressing after a good first season. I see one that’s regressing and I don’t see how that will change with Ten Hag in charge.

 

“It’s not all Ten Hag’s fault, of course. Many of the problems at United lie above and beyond him. Some of the players also need to look themselves in the mirror.
