New signing Leny Yoro has sent a wordless message to Manchester United teammate Mason Mount amid one or two whispers he could depart Old Trafford this summer. Yoro, 18, made his first appearance in the famous red shirt during a 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Rangers – in which Mount also played.

United completed a move for the highly-rated defender on Thursday night. Yoro will cost the Premier League side up to £58.9million including various add-ons – and played 45 minutes on his debut.

As for Mount, meanwhile, he has struggled to make his mark since joining United for £60million from Chelsea last summer. Due to form and fitness concerns, the 36-cap England international was limited to 20 matches last season, contributing just one goal and an assist in those outings.

Speculation over Mount and his future at Old Trafford has started to spiral in recent days amid reports United are open to selling the midfielder. The Manchester Evening News understands United are actively looking to generate funds by selling players, but Mount is not a prominent name on that list.

Adjusting to life in the UK – having opted for a move to United despite interest from Real Madrid – Yoro impressed on debut and has been rather active on social media since the final whistle. In one post – uploaded to his Instagram story – the Frenchman shared a cropped picture celebrating alongside Mount.

In that, Yoro added the fingers crossed emoji. Whether or not that was in direct response to rumours on Mount is unclear, but the ex-Chelsea man will have everything crossed that his time at United is not coming to an end after being a marquee transfer for Erik ten Hag last summer.

He was even handed the club’s famous No.7 shirt as a sweetener to complete his switch to Manchester.
