De Bruyne substituted

26 min: Man City 0 Napoli 0 Antonio Conte is not a sentimental man. With Napoli needing a replacement right-back, Mathias Olivera comes on to replace Kevin De Bruyne. That was always on the cards once Di Lorenzo was sent off; of the five Napoli midfielders that started the game, De Bruyne offers the least defensively. And Napoli are going to do a lot of defending.

Reijnders flips a nice inswinging cross that is headed over by the flying Haaland eight yards out. A lovely leap but he couldn’t quite get over the ball.

Napoli are preparing a substitution, which could be bad news for Kevin De Bruyne.

Reijnders whacks the resulting free-kick off the wall and behind for a corner.

Di Lorenzo sent off

21 min: Man City 0 Napoli 0 It was a simple decision for the referee Felix Zwayer once he saw the replay. Haaland was running clear onto a delightful pass from Foden, and Di Lorenzo didn’t touch the ball as he lunged into a challenge on the edge of the D. Textbook dogso.

VAR check for a potential red card The last man Di Lorenzo makes a desperate lunging challenge on Haaland just outside the area. The referee says he got the ball; replays show that wasn’t the case and Di Lorenzo is in trouble here.

Donnarumma makes a good save, pushing away Beukema’s downward header from a right-wing corner. Not as good as his fingertip stop from Bryan Mbeumo on Sunday but still a good stop.

Doku, who has been the biggest danger to Napoli early on, runs Di Lorenzo win a corner on the left. Bernardo takes, Haaland heads over under pressure.

De Bruynewatch: nothing to report. Napoli have barely had the ball, so he is getting to see how the other half have lived at the Etihad in the last decade.

Napoli’s first dangerous attack. Spinazzola turns Khusanov one way and then the other before lifting a cross beyond the far post. Anguissa heads it down and Rodri gets in front of McTominay to clear.

Reijnders works Milinkovic-Savic with a fierce rising drive from the edge of the area. It was central enough to be a comfortable save for the keeper.

Foden curls the resulting corner beyond the far post, where Doku chests the ball down and has a shot blocked. On reflection he should probably have taken it on the volley.
