Manchester United’s starting 11 could look very promising ahead of the 2024-25 Premier League season.
Erik ten Hag’s side finished a record-low eighth last season but the FA Cup victory over Manchester City saved him from an exit amid speculation over his future at Old Trafford and the Dutchman has since had his contract extended by a year. United are set to announce the signing of Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee in the coming days for a reported fee of £36m as Ineos look to hand Ten Hag a squad capable of battling for major titles.
Zirkzee has been touted as a promising prospect for some time now but only truly flourished at Bologna this season – under former Italian international Thiago Motta – contributing with 19 goal involvements in 37 domestic appearances.

The Dutchman is a traditional centre-forward whose main attributes include pace and an aerial threat as he stands at 6ft 4in. He will provide competition for last year’s marquee signing Rasmus Højlund who impressed in patches during his first season in English football. In terms of numbers, last term Zirkzee edged the Dane slightly – Højlund registered 12 goal involvements in 30 appearances.
Jadon Sancho has returned to Manchester United pre-season training after resolving the long-running feud with Ten Hag which resulted in a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, where the Englishman impressed during the German’s run to the UEFA Champions League final. The 24-year-old looked confident in his ability and back to near his best in the second half of last season – he has not featured for United since August 26, 2023.
United confirmed the news in a statement on Friday, which said: “Jadon Sancho returned for testing on Wednesday following his loan spell at Borussia Dortmund during the second half of last season. The 24-year-old forward trained with the group on Thursday.” United fly to Norway next week – MEN Sport understands Sancho will not take part – however he has been seen in first-team training as players filter back after the summer break.
