Manchester City are delighted to confirm the signing of Sverre Nypan from Norwegian side Rosenborg.
The 18-year-old midfielder has signed a five-year contract with the club taking him through to the summer of 2030.
Nypan, who made his first team debut for Rosenborg at the age of 15, arrives at the Etihad armed with a reputation for being one of the most promising teenage talents to have emerged in the European game.
Predominantly a central midfielder, Nypan’s versatility, talent and technique has also seen him deployed as an attacking midfielder, wide on the flanks and also as a centre forward.
From 70 senior appearances for Rosenborg, Nypan registered 14 goals alongside 11 assists.
He has also represented Norway at every age range from Under-15s level up to and including Under-21 level.
Nypan becomes the fifth capture of the summer following the arrivals of left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, winger Rayan Cherki, midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli.
Commenting on joining, Nypan said: “I am incredibly happy and proud to have joined Manchester City.
“It’s a dream for any young footballer to become part of this Club and to join such a group of world class talent.
“I am still very young with a lot to learn but the chance to be coached by Pep Guardiola, the best manager in the world, will only help me to become a better player.
“There is already a special connection between Norway and Manchester City through Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb, and I am very proud to have become the latest Norwegian player to have joined the club.”
For his part, City Director of Football Hugo Viana said he was thrilled to welcome Nypan to Manchester City.
“Sverre is an exciting young player that the Club has been monitoring for quite some time now.
“We feel that he already has numerous standout qualities but that at only 18 years of age, he is only going to continue to improve.
“We believe he will be an important asset for Manchester City in the years to come and we will support him every step of the way in his development.”
Everyone at Manchester City is delighted to welcome Sverre to the Club and we all wish him the very best during his time here.
