Bundesliga side Bayern Munich have announced the signing of Vincent Kompany from Burnley as their new manager on a three-year deal following the departure of former head coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the immediate past season.
“FC Bayern has signed Vincent Kompany as the new coach. The 38-year-old Belgian signed with the German record champion until the 30th. June 2027. Most recently, he worked for the English Premier League club FC Burnley,” the club said in a statement on Wednesday.
Bayern Munich ended the 2023/24 season on a bad note, going trophyless for the first time in over a decade.
They finished third in the Bundesliga behind league winners Bayer Leverkusen and Stuggart, which also spelt the end of Tuchel’s reign at the Allianz Arena.
The decision by the club’s hierarchy to hire the ex-Manchester City captain was a huge surprise to many as he won only five matches during 2023-2024 as Burnley returned to the Championship after he led them to Premier League promotion in the prior season.
Kompany’s appointment comes with a huge task as he has to return Bayern Munich to their best as soon as possible and the Belgian stated that he is ready for a new challenge with the German side.
“I’m looking forward to the challenge of FC Bayern. It’s a great honour to be able to work for this club – FC Bayern is an institution in international football,” he told Bayern Munich’s official website.
