Aston Villa
Villa fan here – would like two or three world-class defenders, a couple more outstanding midfielders and another red-hot striker or two up front to support Olly Watkins. Jude Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Dani Olmo and Phil Foden would be a good start.
D.Luded (fan)
This topic is taking a turn…D.Luded just needs one more player for his all-star five-a-side team.
Feel free to send in any ideas on who think should complete the line-up, or your own ideas for marquee signings at your club, should money be no object.

David, who described himself as an optimistic Aston Villa fan, dared to dream in an earlier post that his club might be able to tempt Nico Williams to join Unai Emery’s Champions League challenge – and was promptly shot down by readers taking to the thumbs.
More than 1,600 of you have so far clicked the thumbs down when asked if the Spain and Athletic Bilbau winger might be a viable transfer target for Villa. Click here to see the latest count.
The suggestion has prompted a tongue-in-cheek message from a D.Luded, coming up…

Premier League ball for 2024/25 season
For those of you who get excited about seeing the ball that will be used for the new Premier League season, here you go.
This is the last Nike ball that will be used in the English top flight for the foreseeable future, with Puma taking over for the 2025-26 season.
Of course, once the clocks go back in October, the ball will switch to the yellow winter edition before swapping back to white in March.

Without Kevin de Bruyne, Manchester City won’t get top four. He’s not underrated but they’ll see just how much they rely on him when he’s gone. He’s 33 so has possibly one season at elite level left.

Jadon Sancho playing for Manchester United against Rangers at Murrayfield

Now then, this may have been something you didn’t expect to see but Jadon Sancho was back in a Manchester United shirt under the guidance of Erik ten Hag at the weekend.
After being sent on loan to Borussia Dortmund in January following a fall out with the United boss, it seemed as though Sancho’s time at Old Trafford may have been at an end.
But after returning for pre-season, the 24-year-old English winger was included in the squad for Saturday’s friendly against Rangers and started the match, which was played at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.
Ten Hag even described the winger’s performance as “terribly good”.

Manchester United
What Manchester United have needed for a long time is a clear out of overpaid and underperforming players. This would be a way of generating much-needed income for new blood. Antony, Mason Mount, Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Casemiro to depart please.

It is being reported, Manchester United are hopeful of beating Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig to the signing of Xavi Simons.
The 21-year-old’s stock has risen this summer after impressing at Euro 2024 for the Netherlands.
Simons was on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris St-Germain last season.
Spanish publication, Sport 45, external, is reporting that PSG were initially in favour of extending his loan to Leipzig, before Bayern exceeded expectations with a transfer proposal reportedly close to 70m euros (£59m).
That was before United came along.

Crystal Palace
As a Crystal Palace fan, I’m happy with our business so far in signing Daichi Kamada and Chadi Riad. But we need someone to fill the Michael Olise void. And that man is Emile Smith-Rowe. Plus, if we can keep hold of Eze and Marc Guehi, then we could potentially have a top-10 finish come May.
Alexander, Newton-le-Willows
Here’s a change of pace for you – I won’t speak for all, however, many Palace fans will now be aligned with me in just having faith in the club and our new manager to do the business. First time in my life I’m assuming they know better than me [with regards to transfer dealings]!

Back to Manchester City rumours.

Eze, 26, is under contract for three more years at Selhurst Park and reportedly has a release clause of around £60m.

Aston Villa
Aston Villa could do with a marquee summer signing who will worry Champions League defences. We’ve been trying to sign Nico Williams for over a year. He wants to go to Barca but they are broke (again). Perhaps the sale of Moussa Diaby might allow us to meet his wage demands…
David, an optimistic Villa fan
What do you think folks? Is David being optimistic? Click thumbs up if you think Aston Villa could tempt Nico Williams to swap current club Athletic Bilbao or a potential move to Barcelona for the promise of Premier League and Champions League football at Villa Park…or thumbs down if you don’t.

Al-Ittihad linked with Man City duo – reports

Monday’s gossip column
Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne and Ederson
We asked readers to vote with their thumbs earlier as to whether it is time for Manchester City to cash in on Kevin de Bruyne following reports over the weekend that the 33-year-old Belgium playmaker had agreed personal terms with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.
At the last count, the entirely unscientific poll showed 1,779 in favour of City selling De Bruyne, with 983 against the idea.
Of course, it is not possible to know whether those in favour were fans of other Premier League teams eager to see the back of a player who has tormented opposition defences for nine, trophy-laden years at the Etihad.
However, Talksport, external suggests, in today’s gossip column, that the story is not true and that De Bruyne has not agreed terms with Al-Ittihad.
As mentioned earlier, the Mail, external reports that Al-Ittihad have approached the league champions over a deal for another one of their star players, 30-year-old Brazil goalkeeper Ederson.

Arsenal
As an Arsenal fan, I’m fairly happy with the squad. I think we should let Aaron Ramsdale go (not because I want to but I don’t think him being a number two is fair to him). I’d quite like a new striker, my ideal players would be Evan Ferguson or Alexander Isak. They have Premier experience and would fit in the squad.
Guy from Nottingham
After what seems to be the confirmed signing of Riccardo Calafiori, I would like Arsenal to get someone in who can cover Bukayo Saka. Also, someone to play behind/next to Declan Rice.
Louis
As an Arsenal fan, I think if we get Calafiori we are covered defensively (with a fit Jurrien Timber available). Midfield looks OK, but with all due respect to Gabriel Jesus, we do need a 20-goal-a-season striker to push on. Isak would be a good fit.

We don’t have to worry about PSR any more – Nuno

Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo

Nottingham Forest have acted fast in the summer transfer window, bringing in five new additions for the 2024-25 season, but Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed the Reds could still make some more signings before deadline day.
Speaking to BBC Radio Nottingham, the Forest boss said: “We have some players but the squad is not closed yet.
“We still have aspects to decide. We are working with players who came back from their loans, so we have to have a good look at them and make the right decisions for them.
“It was more important that we were able to keep our [best] players, so I’m really happy that we – as a club – are keeping our most important players.
“After the work of last season, I believe that this is what’s going to give us that improvement through to this season.”
On needing to sell players before that 30 June ‘profit and sustainability deadline’, Nuno insisted: “The club did well. We don’t have to worry about that issue any more.”

Liverpool
It would be nice to see Liverpool sign a proven striker and a defensive midfielder, instead of players from the, dare I say, bargain basement.

Manchester United have been busy in the transfer market so far with defender Leny Yoro and striker Joshua Zirkzee coming in.
Mason Greenwood is a notable outgoing from Old Trafford and rumours suggest Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay could also soon be on his way out.
However, manager Erik ten Hag says he wants to keep hold of the Scotland international.
“I think we have very good players so they’ll always have an interest from other clubs,” said Ten Hag after United’s 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Rangers at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Saturday.
“If you score 10 goals in a season and perform very well for Scotland there will be an interest.
“We want to actually keep him because he’s a very important player for our squad. We’ve seen what he can contribute last season.”

Arsenal
What Arsenal need is Italy and Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, RB Leipzig’s Spain midfielder Daniel Olmo, Napoli’s Georgian forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and, being greedy, Brentford’s England striker Ivan Toney. Sell Eddie Nketiah, Reiss Nelson, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney.
Craig from London
Why not be greedy Craig? Calafiori, Olmo, Kvaratskhelia and Toney is quite the wish list, though.

Elsewhere in today’s gossip column, Sky Sports, external are reporting that Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal with Bologna worth a combined £42.1m for 22-year-old Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori.
Bologna bought the player last summer for just 4m euros (£3.4m) but Sky Sports News suggest that Real Madrid, Juventus and another Premier League club have “tried to sign the player over the last 10 days”.
However, it is reported that Calafiori “only wanted Arsenal” and, while discussions continue between the Gunners and Bologna over payment structure and clauses, “there is agreement on many aspects” of the deal.

Liverpool
I’d like to see Liverpool get in a defender. They should keep Sepp van den Berg as back-up and let him have a chance, like Jarrad Quansah got last season. But the Reds should get in Sporting Lisbon’s Gonçalo Inacio as the new Joel Matip and rotate between him, Van Den Berg and Konate next to Virgil van Dijk.

West Ham keen on AC Milan defender Tomori

West Ham were linked with a possible move for France midfielder N’Golo Kante before the weekend and reports this morning suggest they are ready to go in for another former Chelsea player.
A story in the Mail, external says that the Hammers are interested in a move for AC Milan’s 26-year-old English defender Fikayo Tomori.
Tomori, who started his career at Chelsea before moving to Milan for £24m in June 2021, played 26 times in Serie A last season as the 2022 champions lost out in the title race to city rivals Inter.
The report does, however, say that West Ham’s initial £15m bid for Kante was rejected by his club, Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.
