Pep Guardiola took time to make his final decision on signing a new Manchester City contract due to a painful back injury he has been struggling through.
The Spaniard looks set to end long-running speculation over his future by signing a new deal. It has been suggested that he will sign a one-year extension to his current deal which expires next summer.
There will also be an option for the former Barcelona coach to extend that contract by a further season to 2027. Should he serve those two years, that would see Guardiola stay at the Etihad Stadium for a decade.
And while City were always keen for their manager to extend his stay with the club, there were some slight reservations on his side which has led to the relatively late call to sign on the dotted line.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the 53-year-old has been in considerable pain since undergoing surgery for a back injury. He also needed to be convinced that a new deal would be right for him and his family.
Guardiola apparently remains keen on managing an international team at some point during his career. Speaking about his future in the summer, he said: “I want to be sure it’s the right decision, not just for me but for club, the right decision for the players.
“If they run like they already ran for eight years, no matter the competition, the tournament, and this is what I have to see and that’s all. When I said I would love to stay (it’s) because I would love to stay. So that’s why, I want to deny my feelings, I want to see my players.”
And City’s stars have attempted to intervene and convince Guardiola to stay – one of those being defender Josko Gvardiol. Speaking about his manager, the Croatian said: “Pep is always passionate and focused.

“He constantly pushes us to reach our full potential and be perfect in every aspect of our game. His high standards and incredible attention to detail have helped me grow as a player and as a person.”
Guardiola is sure to get a positive reception this weekend as City continue their pursuit of a fifth-consecutive Premier League crown. The reigning champions take on Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.
