Is Pink Floyd prog rock?
Personally would you consider Pink Floyd PROG ROCK or not? And why?
I think art rock is a much more appropriate term for their music than prog rock, so I’d say NO. They were also psychedelic rock, space rock and experimental rock. Although their music is creative and unique I never found it to be complex compared to other bands as King Crimson, Yes, Rush, Genesis, ELP, Camel, Gentle Giant, etc.
I don’t find their general sound to be rooted in classical, jazz or folk(genres heavily associated with prog rock genre), but blues.
And they had a huge commercial success, unlike other prog rock bands.
What would you say?

First, commercial success has no impact on genre, period.
Second, most of your question just comes down to whether you view genres as overlapping, or completely exclusive.
Personally, I find that trying to sort every artist and band into a completely separate bucket is futile. Sure, some artists have one primary genre — Bob Marley is a reggae artist. But what about Prince? He’s funk, soul, R&B, rock & roll, pop, and more. Some songs and albums emphasize certain elements more than others, but there’s a lot of overlap.
So I don’t see labels like “space rock” or “art rock” as being totally discrete either. Sure, “space rock” gives you some context as to what sounds or ideas might be used heavily, but can space rock never be proggy? Can space rock never be artsy as well?
To me, the only reason that we use genre labels is for comparison and broad categorization. Hey friend, I know you like [x band], you should check out [y band]. Hey, this group I saw last night is like a bluesier version of [x].
So yes, Pink Floyd is proggy. That might not be the first label I would use, and there might be other bands that are “more” prog, but that label tells me some relevant information about the sound and what I can expect to hear.

I won’t touch on every point you brought up, but I do want to touch on this:
And they had a huge commercial success, unlike other prog rock bands.
I think you’re neglecting a lot of the commercial success that other prog rock bands had. Yes had a US number 1 hit (“Owner of a Lonely Heart”), Rush had an album that went 5 times platinum in the states (Moving Pictures), and Genesis a grand total of 7 US top 10 singles (including the number 1 hit “Invisible Touch”).
Now you could rightly say that while these other prog rock bands had substantial commercial success, their material that attained success wasn’t progressive rock. And this would be true! Nobody in their right mind is going to claim “That’s All” or “Owner of a Lonely Heart” are prog rock. But just because those songs don’t invalidate The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway or Fragile, the existence of “Another Brick in the Wall Part 2” doesn’t invalidate Animals or Atom Heart Mother.
