STEVE SARKISIAN CAPS OFF REMARKABLE SEASON WITH 2025 BIG 12 COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD

Austin, TX – In a season filled with impressive victories and program-defining moments, Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian has been named the 2025 Big 12 Coach of the Year. This prestigious award is a testament to Sarkisian’s exceptional leadership, coaching prowess, and dedication to the Texas football program.

Sarkisian, in his fourth year at the helm of the Longhorns, guided his team to a remarkable 12-1 regular season record, with their only loss coming against arch-rival Oklahoma. Under his leadership, Texas secured the Big 12 Championship title, defeating Kansas State 31-24 in a thrilling conference championship game.

“Coach Sarkisian has done an outstanding job of leading our program to new heights,” said University of Texas Athletic Director Chris Del Conte. “His commitment to excellence, his ability to motivate and inspire his players, and his exceptional coaching skills have all contributed to this remarkable season. We’re thrilled to see him receive this well-deserved recognition.”

Throughout the season, Sarkisian’s team demonstrated remarkable resilience, perseverance, and teamwork. The Longhorns’ offense, led by quarterback Quinn Ewers, averaged 42.5 points per game, while the defense, anchored by defensive lineman Jordan Renaud, allowed just 20.8 points per game.

“Coach Sarkisian has been instrumental in our success this season,” said Ewers. “He’s an exceptional leader who always puts his players first. His ability to motivate and inspire us has been invaluable, and we’re grateful to have him at the helm of our program.”

Sarkisian’s coaching staff also played a crucial role in the team’s success. His assistants, including defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and offensive coordinator Kyle Flood, worked tirelessly to develop game plans and make adjustments throughout the season.

“Coach Sarkisian has created a positive and productive culture within our program,” said Kwiatkowski. “He’s given us the freedom to coach and develop our players, and his trust in us has been instrumental in our success.”

The Big 12 Coach of the Year award is voted on by the conference’s head coaches. Sarkisian’s peers recognized his outstanding work this season, and he received the majority of the votes.

“Steve Sarkisian has done an outstanding job of leading the Texas Longhorns to a Big 12 Championship,” said Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark. “His team’s success is a testament to his exceptional coaching skills, his ability to motivate his players, and his commitment to excellence. We’re thrilled to recognize him as the 2025 Big 12 Coach of the Year.”

Sarkisian’s award is the latest in a series of accolades for the Texas football program. Earlier this season, Ewers was named a finalist for the Davey O’Brien Award, and Renaud was named a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy.

As the Longhorns prepare for their upcoming bowl game, Sarkisian’s focus remains on his team and their continued success.

“We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished this season, but we’re not satisfied,” said Sarkisian. “We’re going to continue to work hard, stay focused, and strive for excellence in everything we do. This award is not just a recognition of my efforts, but also a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team.”
