State troopers said a commercial car hauler hit a vehicle from behind in the westbound lanes. That collision caused the car hauler to cross the median and cable barriers, troopers said.
According to investigators, after crossing into the eastbound lanes, the vehicle was hit by another car.
Troopers said the driver of the truck was also injured and taken to a hospital.
Both sides of I-26 were closed for several hours because of the crash but reopened early Sunday morning.
A GoFundMe was started to help the family.
