Texas Running Backs in Good Shape with CJ Baxter’s Return Following Jaydon Blue’s Departure

The Texas Longhorns’ running back corps has received a significant boost with the return of CJ Baxter, a talented and experienced back who is expected to play a key role in the team’s offense this season.

Baxter’s return comes on the heels of Jaydon Blue’s decision to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft, a move that left some question marks about the Longhorns’ running back depth. However, with Baxter back in the fold, the team’s coaching staff is feeling much more confident about their options at the position.

“CJ is a talented back who brings a lot of experience and leadership to our running back corps,” said Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian. “We’re excited to have him back and we’re looking forward to seeing him make an impact on the field.”

Baxter, a 5-9, 205-pound junior, has been a key contributor to the Longhorns’ offense over the past two seasons. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards and scored 10 touchdowns in his career, and has also been a reliable receiver out of the backfield.

Despite missing some time due to injury last season, Baxter is expected to be at full strength this season and is looking forward to making a big impact on the field.

“I’m feeling great and I’m ready to go,” Baxter said. “I’ve been working hard in the offseason and I’m excited to get back out there and compete with my teammates.”

With Baxter’s return, the Longhorns’ running back corps is looking deep and talented. The team also returns Jonathan Brooks, a speedy and elusive back who saw significant playing time last season, and has added several talented newcomers to the mix.

“We’re feeling good about our running back depth,” Sarkisian said. “We’ve got a lot of talented players at the position and we’re looking forward to seeing them compete and make plays on the field.”

The Longhorns’ running game will be a key part of the team’s offense this season, and with Baxter’s return, the team is looking to make a big impact on the ground.

“We’re going to be a physical team that likes to run the ball,” Sarkisian said. “We’ve got the talent and the depth to make that happen, and we’re excited to see what our running backs can do this season.”
