New details of Manchester United’s interest in Jamal Musiala have emerged after the Germany star’s impressive performances at Euro 2024.
Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Musiala has been one of the stand-out players so far at the tournament, scoring three goals in four matches.
He found the net in Germany’s 2-0 win over Denmark in the round of 16 to set up a quarter-final clash with Spain on Friday.

Former England youth international Musiala is now being strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, with both his former club Chelsea and champions Manchester City reportedly interested in the 21-year-old.
But reports earlier this year claim Bayern are not willing to allow Musiala to leave for anything less than £100m, with his performances at the Euros likely to drive this price up even further.
United had the opportunity to sign Musiala on a trial in 2018 ahead of his departure from Chelsea’s academy but opted against making a move for him, according to The Athletic.

United youth scout Andreas Herrmann is said to have watched him at a Germany training camp and regarded him as the best player.
“Musiala was weighing up which nation to represent. But there were complications with the deal and United, conscious of regulations, decided that entering the running would be too risky,” added the report.
Musiala played for England’s U15 side before representing Germany at U16 level.
The Stuttgart-born star, who qualified for England through his mother, then switched back to representing the Young Lions at U16, U17 and U21 level before finally deciding to represent Germany at senior level.

He has since won 33 caps for the national side, scoring five times.

According to The Sun, Musiala was ready to commit to representing the Three Lions before ex-Germany boss Joachim Low persuaded him to change his mind.
Andrew Martin, a former coach of Musiala, said: “It was always going to be England. He felt more at home there, he played for Chelsea and there were other Chelsea boys in the England squad, and he knew others from playing on the academy circuit.

“I remember at the time Jamal went to meet Jogi Low and the academy director at Bayern. They made a clear pathway of how he would get into the Bayern first team and the German first team.
“I think once you meet the first-team manager as a 16, 17-year-old, I think your decision is made for you. That’s pretty impressive that they made the time to do that.
“He wanted it to be England but then it was the move to Germany that swayed everything, with the help of Low and the help of the Bayern set-up.”
