Stat attack – Liverpool
Liverpool have seven wins and one loss in the league this season.
They are on a four-match winning streak. The last time they lost an EPL match was on September 14, when they were upset 1-0 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield.
They have the EPL’s stingiest defence, with only three goals conceded in eight matches.

Stat attack – Arsenal
Arsenal have five wins, two draws and and one loss this season. They sit fourth in the Premier League table.
Last weekend, they suffered their first loss of the season in a shock defeat away to Bournemouth, losing 2-0 after playing with 10 men for the last 60 minutes of the match.
German international Kai Havertz leads the team’s top scorer list with four league goals from eight matches. Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka leads the EPL with seven assists from as many matches.

Salah in red-hot form
For a player who is out of contract at the end of the season, Mo Salah is having quite a year.
The 32-year-old Egyptian international is currently equal-sixth in Premier League goals (5) and second in assists (6), behind only Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.
Salah was also in fine midweek form against RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League, assisting teammate Darwin Nunez for Liverpool’s first goal of the night, bringing his total to 14 goal contributions in just 12 games across all competitions for the 2024-25 season.
A red-hot Salah was far from impressed being substituted after just an hour against Leipzig. But it’s believed manager Arne Slot did this to save the forward’s legs for tonight’s clash against Arsenal. We’ll soon find out if that time management strategy pays dividends!

Curtis Jones keeps his place
The big news in Liverpool’s lineup is that midfielder Curtis Jones has retained his place after scoring the winning goal and putting in a player of the match performance in last week’s win over Chelsea, with Dominik Szoboszlai dropping to the bench.
Arne Slot has made two other changes from the team that beat RB Leipzig in midweek, as Andy Robertson and Luis Diaz have been recalled to replace Kostas Tsimikas and Cody Gakpo down the left.
Darwin Nunez will lead the line in the absence of the injured Diogo Jota, as Liverpool line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Saka and Timber pass late fitness tests
Arsenal fans will welcome the sight of winger Bukayo Saka on the team sheet, as he had been a doubt after picking up an injury with England over the international break.
Jurrien Timber has also passed a late fitness test and will play at left back.
Ben White moves into the centre of defence to cover for the suspended William Saliba, with Thomas Partey reprising an earlier role as a makeshift right back.
Mikel Merino gets a start alongside Declan Rice as screening midfielders in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
Kai Havertz, who has scored four Premier League goals so far this season, leads the line.
Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus have to make do with places on the bench.

A look at the table
Defeat would leave Arsenal seven points adrift of Slot’s side and six behind Manchester City, who beat Southampton on Saturday.
That might not have Arteta hitting the panic button, but allowing their two biggest title rivals such an early head start would leave the Londoners with precious little wriggle room in the months ahead.

Arsenal must unlock a mean Liverpool defence
Slot improved his record start as Liverpool boss to 11 wins in his first 12 games with their 1-0 victory against RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday.
He has also guided them to wins in all six games away from home – also a club record.
Liverpool’s defence have conceded just three goals in their last eight league games, while Arsenal have conceded on average a goal a game.
“Most games, we dominated and controlled for large parts, so that helps if you have the ball. But I also like if we have difficult parts of the game. Then the work rate is incredible not to concede,” Slot said.
“If you combine that with Virgil [van Dijk] and Ibou [Ibrahima Konate] and the two goalkeepers we’ve used, these elements are why we haven’t conceded so much.”
Slot said Alisson is “progressing well” in his recovery from a hamstring injury, but it is expected the Brazilian goalkeeper will miss at least another three matches and return after the next international break.

Arsenal captain Odegaard nearing return
Martin Odegaard is nearing a return from an ankle ligament injury, Norway coach Stale Solbakken said.
The midfielder has been out since sustaining an injury while playing for his country in September.
“Everything indicates that [the recovery] is going according to plan, then it is about the last steps when you are going to train with opponents and at team training,” Solbakken told Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang.
“It depends on how he responds to it, but we have a justified hope that he is ready.”

Wounded Arsenal must show ‘ruthless mentality’ against Liverpool: Arteta
Mikel Arteta says Arsenal cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves after a rash of injuries and William Saliba’s suspension ruined their preparation for Sunday’s blockbuster clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
“We’re going to do our very best to somehow have them available. But, it’s very uncertain.” Arteta told reporters on Friday.
Facing in-form Liverpool without so many star players is daunting, but Arteta is adamant his team will rise to the challenge.
“This is the game. Obviously we didn’t want to be in this situation but we are lucky to have the squad we have. Don’t feel sorry for ourselves,” Arteta said.
“We are a good team and know how difficult we can be for the opponent. We have that ruthless mentality I love.”

Liverpool anticipating ‘difficult’ challenge at Arsenal
The Reds earned a 2-1 home win over Chelsea last Sunday, with Curtis Jones’s 51st-minute answer to Nicolas Jackson’s 48th-minute equaliser ending up as the winner.
Liverpool followed that with a 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory at RB Leipzig via Darwin Nunez’s strike before half-time to run an impressive win streak to eight in all competitions.
Even so, first-year manager Arne Slot insists that logically, his side should expect its most difficult opponent yet in the Gunners.
“Nobody knows who the biggest competitors will be at this early stage, but Arsenal will be one, so winning points against them is important,” Slot said.
“Three draws and one loss [against them] last season? If we use those maths, if Liverpool could win all three, the table is much different. But it is difficult to win away at Arsenal or City, but we will try on Sunday.”
