Everton 2-2 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

I’m stunned, I really am.

Manchester United were seemingly dead and buried before Bruno Fernandes stood up to take that free-kick.

They now have all the momentum and are pushing for a winner… I wouldn’t bet against them either.

Jarrad Branthwaite is now down trying to slow the play.

Goal:Everton 2-2 Man United (Ugarte 80′)

By Harry Bamforth

WHAT A FINISH!

I can’t believe what I am seeing, Manchester United have pulled themselves out of the gutter.

A free-kick is nodded into the pass of Manuel Ugarte and he thumps it into the corner on the volley.

I have no idea where it has come from, but what a comeback.

‘Garnacho given United more attacking edge’

By Chris Wheeler At Goodison Park

Excellent free kick by Fernandes but it was Garnacho who drew the foul and he has already given United more of an attacking edge.

If United don’t turn this around you would have to ask why Amorim waited so long to hook the anonymous Hojlund and send on Garnacho.

Everton 2-1 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Where was this fight from Manchester United before?

They suddenly have a zip to their play and are knocking the ball about with confidence.

Everton are now starting to sit back, this could be a tense last 10 minutes or so.

Everton 2-1 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

It’s crazy how one moment can change a game.

Goodison Park is suddenly a barrel of nerves and Manchester United have a spring in their step.

If they come out of here with a point, it really would be a miracle after their performance.

They have certainly woken up.

Goal:Everton 2-1 Man United (Fernandes 72′)

By Harry Bamforth

A MOMENT OF MAGIC FROM BRUNO FERNANDES!

Just when Manchester United are crying out for something special, their captain provides it from a set-piece.

Fernandes bends an incredible free-kick into the bottom corner from 25 yards out. Jordan Pickford doesn’t even move.

Out of absolutely nothing, United have an interest.

SUBSTITUTION: Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Well, it’s time for the young guns…

Ruben Amorim brings on both Leny Yoro and Chido Obi Martine to bring some youthful exuberance to this United side.

I mean, they can’t get any worse.

Noussair Mazraoui and Rasmus Hojlund are the pair that make way.

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

How has Harry Maguire not been booked there?

The Manchester United defender goes flying through Jarrad Branthwaite and gives away a foul.

You just expect the yellow card to be brandished but Andy Madley let’s it slide.

The Everton players are not happy whatsoever, and you can see why. It’s a poor challenge.

Maybe Madley just felt bad, so let him off…

BIG SAVE! Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

That is one hell of a save from Andre Onana!

Abdoulaye Doucoure gets on the end of a cross first time and whips a half-volley on target.

It looks destined to hit the back of the net but Onana does well to get across and deny him.

My word, it’s some connection from Doucoure though, he really gets his foot through the ball.

Deserved a goal.

YELLOW CARD: Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

I forgot just how much Ashley Young loves a naughty challenge.

He flies in here and picks up a deserved yellow card, much to the dismay of the Everton fans.

They are soon cheering ironically though as moments later Matthijs de Ligt somehow plays a basic back pass out of play.

Embarrassingly bad, it really is.

SUBSTITUTION: Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Here comes Alejandro Garnacho…

The Manchester United winger scored an incredible overhead kick at the Gwladys Street End last season, and now he will be attacking that stand again.

The winger replaces Casemiro as Ruben Amorim looks to inject some potency into his side.

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

How has Jarrad Branthwaite just kept that ball in???

The Ball looked like it was going out for a Manchester United corner but Branthwaite manages to head it to Jordan Pickford.

Surely that went out… If not an error from the officials, that’s an unreal bit of defending.

‘Bit more bite to United’

By Chris Wheeler At Goodison Park

There has been a bit more bite to United since half-time. It looks like something may have happened at the interval because James Tarkowski came out pointing at Manuel Ugarte and then towards the tunnel, clearly unhappy about something that had gone on.

Referee Andy Madley got involved and had a word with United captain Bruno Fernandes and Ugarte while Tarkowski continued to vent his feelings from inside the Everton half before the game resumed.

13:53,

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Goodison Park is in fine voice in the sunshine.

The Gwladys Street end is going through a catalogue of chants and have me bobbing along in my seat.

The feel-good feeling in this place is contagious!

PENALTY CLAIM! Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Oh, come on Harry…

No, that’s me not talking to myself, I mean Maguire.

The Manchester United defender flops down to the ground in the area under pressure from James Tarkowski, following a free-kick.

He then screams for a penalty, but my word was he looking for it. Never a foul.

The referee agrees.

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Everton’s ability to stop the counter-attack is just unreal.

Manchester United breakaway from a Toffees corner but the hosts get bodies back in a flash.

In the end, the visitors have nowhere to go and the attack comes to nothing.

They are putting in one hell of a shift, are Everton.

SUBSTITUTION: Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Ah, this is a shame.

Jesper Lindstrom has been superb today, with his cheeky flick a highlight for me, but he has picked up a knock.

He can’t continue so is being replaced by former Manchester United man, Ashley Young.

It’s crazy that he is still playing at this level at 39 years old.

13:44,

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

OK, this is better from Manchester United.

They are actually sustaining a period of pressure in front of the Everton box.

No chances are being created, but at least they are trying to make a game of this at last.

It means it’s more entertaining to watch unless you are routing for them to get smashed.

CHANCE! Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Whatever Ruben Amorim said at the break, it hasn’t worked yet…

Everton have come out of the traps firing just like they did at the start of this game.

Jesper Lindstrom wins a corner inside two minutes of the second period and Jarrad Branthwaite gets on the end of the resulting set-piece.

It’s a brilliant header from the defender leaning back and 12 yards out, but Andre Onana gets across to thwart him.

United need to wake up, and pronto.

SECOND HALF: Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Manchester United have been out for the second half for ages…

Ruben Amorim will have gone ape at them in that dressing room, he looks so angry sitting in the dugout.

Eventually, Everton join them out on the turf and we are ready to go at Goodison yet again.

Can United come back here?

13:37

‘United have had zero conviction’

By Harry Bamforth

Rio Ferdinand, former Man United defender, on TNT Sports:

Manchester United needed to roll their sleeves up and meet this Everton team and United have not done that. The amount of times they had to clear the ball – zero conviction.

WATCH: Doucoure doubles Toffees lead

By Harry Bamforth

The more I watch this second goal, the more I can’t believe how poorly Andre Onana deals with Jack Harrison’s shot.

What was he thinking?

Onana just pushes the ball into the air and then backpedals, allowing Abdoulaye Doucoure to head home.

The move before all of that was lovely though, I didn’t realise how speedy Beto was.

He has some wheels, I am telling you.

13:32

United’s lack of cutting edge

By Harry Bamforth

I use the word lack, but Man United’s cutting edge was non-existent.

I mean, United did not even manage a single shot on target in that half, they have been so, so poor.

Those players have shown no fight and at Goodison Park, you will always get punished.

United don’t even look like they want to be out there.

13:29

‘Some United players don’t appear to want the ball’

By Chris Wheeler At Goodison Park

An awful half of football from a United perspective. They are two goals down and looking totally devoid of confidence and ideas. Some of these players don’t appear to want the ball, others don’t know what to do when they get it.

It has been an absolute shambles and Amorim has his work cut out to turn it around. Getting Garnacho on for the second half would be a start.

13:27

WATCH: Beto opens the scoring

By Harry Bamforth

Beto really is the man of the moment.

I have two goals to show you but of course, I am going to start with the big man’s opener.

How Manchester United did not clear the ball, I have no idea, but take nothing away from the finish.

Beto just can’t miss in this form. As soon as the ball came his way, I knew it was going in.

Watch and enjoy, Everton fans…

13:23

HALF-TIME: Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

What a half of football from Everton!

They have not allowed Manchester United a single second to breathe and are god value for their two-goal lead.

While Everton have been brilliant, this United side really are appalling. It doesn’t even look like they have been trying at times on Merseyside.

Ruben Amorim will be giving them another rocket at the break, I’m sure.

BIG BLOCK! Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Ohhh, so close to three!

Noussair Mazraoui produces a vital block from an Abdoulaye Doucoure low cross to deny Beto from just three yards out.

Doucoure could have gone down in the box in the build-up and he would have had a penalty.

But I rate the honesty of staying on his feet, it’s what we all want.

YELLOW CARD: Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

This is much better from the visitors, shame they waited until first-half stoppage time, eh?

Patrick Dorgu is cleaned out as he breaks away down the left by Jake O’Brien, who gets booked.

CHANCE! Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

That’s better from Manchester United.

They finally fashion a chance and it comes to Joshua Zirkzee from a teasing corner.

Zirkzee gets on the end of the ball in the area but can only head over the bar.

Should do better.

13:18,

46′

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

My word, this Everton press is truly incredible.

Rasmus Hpjlund looks like he is in for a second and within 20 seconds United’s attack is done.

The Everton midfield hunt the ball down with Abdoulaye Doucoure eventually pinching it off of Manuel Ugarte.

United have not been given any space to work with in this half.

13:16

SIX added minutes

By Harry Bamforth

Well, this miserable half for Manchester United is not quite over yet.

They have six more minutes of it to endure just because of how long the VAR check for the first goal took.

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear…

Manchester United have already run out of ideas going forward and it’s not even half-time yet.

Manuel Ugarte decides to have a pop from 35 yards out and surprise, surprise, it flies miles wide.

Sums up this United display, or even their season.

13:12,

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Ohhhh, that is pure filth from Jesper Lindstrom.

The winger produces a cheeky flick on the right to feed through James Garner and set Everton on their way.

It really is daft (in a good way).

Garner then finds Beto in the box who just needs to hit the ball first time, but he doesn’t and the chance goes begging.

But that move was all about the flick. Love it.

13:09,

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

I feel for Rasmus Hojlund, I really do.

Don’t get me wrong, he is having yet another stinker, but my word the service to him is practically non-existent.

How can you expect a striker to score goals when nobody even gets the ball to them.

Hojlund just looks lost out there, he really does.

13:07,

35′

Everton 2-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

You know I said Ruben Amorim’s smile would go earlier, well it has.

The camera has just panned to the Manchester United boss who just looks done already. It’s an all-too-familiar story for him.

Meanwhile, Vitaly Mykolenko has been down holding his ankle, but after a bit of treatment, he is OK.

David Moyes won’t want him to go off, he has been brilliant.

Goal:Everton 2-0 Man United (Doucoure 33′)

By Harry Bamforth

It’s two for Everton!

It’s another scrappy one from a Manchester United perspective but Abdoulaye Doucoure will not care one single bit.

It’s a brilliant move to start with as Beto is fed in behind. He gallops away before sliding the ball across to Jack Harrison.

Harrison has a pop which Andre Onana pushes into the air before Doucoure heads the ball home.

United in tatters again, Everton flying.

‘Goodison is rocking’

By Chris Wheeler At Goodison Park

Goodison is rocking after that goal which was Beto’s fifth in his last four Premier League games and Everton’s first in five games against United in the league.

Amorim’s side had plenty of opportunities to clear the danger and paid the price. Plenty of time to go here but United aren’t exactly brimming with creativity.

12:59,

28′

Everton 1-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Where has that come from?

Manchester United have just played some beautiful football, I’m not sure if I am dreaming or not.

They work the ball well over to the left before Patrick Dorgu and Bruno Fernandes play a lovely little give-and-go before Dorgu fires in a low cross.

It’s put behind for a corner in the end, but that was brilliant play.

12:57,

25′

Everton 1-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

These Everton fans are having a whale of a time at the expense of Manchester United.

They are now singing ‘going down’ at the top of their lungs and on repeat.

I mean, they are the ones used to being on the receiving end of that chant, but not anymore.

VAR: GOAL STANDS! – Everton

By Harry Bamforth

Goodison Park roars again!

The VAR check takes a lifetime but in the end, the goal is given as Beto is onside.

Earlier in the move he was off, but did not affect the play so that bit was all OK too.

This place is bouncing again, it really is.

12:53,

VAR CHECKING GOAL

By Harry Bamforth

Oh, hang on…

Manchester United players are incensed, they think Beto is offside in the build-up to the goal.

He is miles on when the ball comes his way, but they are now checking something earlier in the move.

Let’s hope this isn’t another ridiculously long check, but I bet it will be.

12:50,

19′

Goal:Everton 1-0 Man United (Beto 19′)

By Harry Bamforth

IT’S THAT MAN AGAIN!

It’s five goals in four Premier League games for Beto and this one is a brilliant finish.

Manchester United make a mess of a corner and just can’t get it clear.

The ball bounces around before being passed to Beto who drives the ball into the ground and into the net.

Goodison is rocking!

Everton 0-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Abdoulaye Doucoure, you have to do better there…

Everton win the ball in the middle of the park and then they’re off, it’s four versus three and Doucoure is leading the charge.

But his pass to Jespoer Lindstrom is so, so poor and the chances is wasted

12:48,

17′

Everton 0-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Manchester United are starting to grow into this match, and Patrick Dorgu is the reason for that.

The left wing-back is flying up and down the pitch and pinging in balls when he can.

He lofts one into the back post, but Jordan Pickford does really well to get to it.

12:45,

13′

Everton 0-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Ooooooft, now that has got to hurt!

All of a sudden, Manchester United get their bottoms into gear and actually fly forward.

Patrick Dorgu arrows a low delivery into the six-yard box and Rasmus Hojlund lunges to get on the end of it.

But Jordan Pickofrd gets there first and Hojlund just lays his boot into the goalkeeper.

That will leave its mark on Pickford…

Everton 0-0 Man United

Beto needs some new boots…

He looks like he is in but his feet give way as the ball comes to his chest, and the chance goes begging.

That’s a big break for Manchester United, they are so lucky.

Oh dear…

Manchester United really are struggling and Diogo Dalot miscontrols a Harry Maguire pass before it goes out of play.

The noise Goodison makes whenever Everton get the ball is just electric, it’s deafening.

United need to try and ride out these early moments.

CHANCE! Everton 0-0 Man United

By Harry Bamforth

Oh boy, Everton are well up for this!

They are hunting down Manchester United like a pack of dogs, the visitors can’t get out.

They give the ball away and it’s sent into the mixer for Beto to meet, which of course he does.

He gets his noggin on it well but the ball ends up in the gloves of Andre Onana.

Everton are so full of confidence.

‘Zirkzee was best of a bad bunch at Spurs’

By Chris Wheeler At Goodison Park

Interesting team selection by Ruben Amorim for United’s last-ever visit to Goodison Park. Joshua Zirkzee keeps his place after he was the best of a bad bunch at Tottenham last weekend, and Bruno Fernandes occupies the other No.10 slot where he can be more creative.

This allows Manuel Ugarte to return from injury alongside Casemiro in midfield, but it means Alejandro Garnacho drops to the bench. The young Argentina international scored the goal of the season here in November 2023 and has been one of United’s brightest players despite the speculation over his future in January.

He should be OK to continue.

Glorious Goodison in fine spirits

Is this really a lunchtime kick-off?

Normally the 12.30pm game brings a dead atmosphere, you can normally hear a penny drop as people are still waking up.
