While the Premier League season is still far from done, clubs from the top-flight and beyond are already beginning to kickstart their summer transfer business on the right note amid fears they could be left behind. The market is now more important than ever and a strong window could ultimately hold the key to a successful season, meaning work between agents and club representatives has already begun on both incomings and outgoings.

There was a bombshell development on Wednesday when reports from Spain revealed that Jude Bellingham was close to signing for Real Madrid.

Although Los Blancos still need to negotiate a fee with Borussia Dortmund, it appears Bellingham is on the verge of finding an agreement over personal terms with the reigning European champions.

Crucially, it also appears Manchester City and Liverpool are now out of the running meaning a total agreement between Real Madrid and Dortmund is seemingly only a matter of time away.

This is a major story because it will also shape transfer plans elsewhere – not least Liverpool where Bellingham has been courted for over two years.

Now the Reds will have to move onto other targets and the name at the top of their shortlist is Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister.

It’s understood progressive talks have already been held with the Argentine’s camp ahead of a summer transfer and the deal is moving in the right direction even if a fee still must be negotiated with Brighton – not the easiest of tasks.

Manchester City will also be looking to reshape their midfield this summer and with Bellingham off the table, the Premier League champions must configure their next move with captain Ilkay Gundogan also of huge interest to Barcelona.

Express Sport has you covered and will be keeping you up to date with all the latest from the transfer market on Thursday, May 4.

Mac Allister drops hint over future

Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister insists he is “really happy” at the club amid reported interest from Liverpool.

The 25-year-old scored from the penalty spot on his 100th appearance for the club to seal a 1-0 win over Manchester United and the Argentinian was delighted with how he was received by the fans.

“I’ve been here three-and-a-half years and I know what this club gave to me, I’m really grateful to them,” Mac Allister told Sky Sports.

“I’m really happy to be here and I try to trasmit that to my team-mates, the young players, that we have a lot. It’s a fantastic team, like a family, and every time I play here I really enjoy.”

Brighton chief makes admission over sales

Brighton CEO Paul Barber has admitted the club are likely to sell players for the right price to ensure they can stay self-sufficient.

Alexis Mac Allister, Moises Caicedo and Kaoru Mitoma are likely to be subject of interest from bigger sides from around Europe and Barber has conceded the Seagulls could decide to cash in if their asking price is met.

“Every club is a selling club to some extent. Even the biggest clubs get tempted by huge offers,” Barber said.

“Our challenge, when we lose players, is to have players already in the door or to have some coming in immediately after them. We will continue recruiting as we have done and keep building for the future.”

Spurs plotting £60m swoop

Tottenham are planning to launch a £60million summer move for playmaker James Maddison even though Daniel Levy is yet to appoint a permanent manager for next season.

The England international is poised to leave the Foxes this season whether they are relegated or stay in the top flight.

The 26-year-old has been linked with Newcastle United after they had two bids rejected over the summer, but Football Insider say the London side are preparing to make an offer for the midfielder.

Giroud tells Chelsea star to join AC Milan

Olivier Giroud has told Christian Pulisic he would be cherished at AC Milan as the Chelsea attacker looks set to leave the Blues this summer.

The American, 24, is out of favour at Stamford Bridge and is expected to be sold to raise funds with only a year left on his contract. And Giroud has welcomed the idea of reuniting with the forward at the San Siro.

“[Pulisic] was a happy boy, always good vibes, smiling. It was easy to have a laugh with him,” Giroud told GOAL. “My understanding on the pitch with him was top, a bit like Eden [Hazard], even if I played less with Christian. He’s that kind of player who is very skilful.

“He can dribble, play the one-two. He knew how to use me on the pitch and vice versa. We had good times together and I hope he can get rid of the injuries, get better and get more consistency and more games because he’s a very, very talented player.”

Then, when asked if Pulisic would be a good fit at AC Milan, Giroud was open to the idea. He replied: “I think people here would love it. It’s definitely a big name in Europe, so he would help us.”

Arsenal ‘very close’ to first signing

Arsenal are reportedly ‘very close’ to making their first summer signing as Mikel Arteta plans ahead for a busy transfer window.

It is claimed Real Sociedad defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi will be the first new player through the doors at the Emirates in the off-season.

Signing a midfielder is set to be high on the agenda for Arsenal. West Ham star Declan Rice is a top target, alongside Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.

– But another name has now emerged as a leading candidate to join the Gunners. Spanish outlet AS claims Zubimendi is ‘very close’ to accepting an offer from Arsenal.

Man Utd and Liverpool learn Palhinha price

Manchester United and Liverpool have been told they must pay at least £50million to convince Fulham to sell Joao Palhinha this summer, according to reports.

The Portuguese has been a revelation for Marco Silva’s side since arriving from Sporting Lisbon and has caught the eye of several top Premier League sides.

The 27-year-old has a contract until 2026, giving the Cottagers a healthy bargaining position. And according to Football Insider, the price to sign the Portugal international will be over £50m this summer.

Arsenal encouraged in Diaby pursuit

Arsenal have received a boost in their pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby with reports suggesting the forward is keen on a move to the Premier League.

According to German outlet SportBILD, the Frenchman is ‘already leaning’ towards the idea of a switch to north London and ‘has contacts’ in England in relation to a possible transfer.

Real Madrid have been linked with the 23-year-old, who has scored nine goals and assisted seven in the Bundesliga this season.

But it is believed a move to Spain would be regarded as a surprise given Arsenal are leading the chase for the winger, who is rated at around £55m by his club.

Liverpool step up Mac Allister interest

Liverpool are ready to make a move for Brighton star Alexis Mac Allister this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to bolster his midfield.

The World Cup winner has enjoyed a stellar season with the Seagulls as well as being crowned world champion with Argentina and has caught the eye of several clubs, including Chelsea and Juventus.

However, talkSPORT suggest the Reds are prepared to make their first offer to test Brighton’s resolve.

The South Coast outfit value the 25-year-old at around £70million, which could put him out of Liverpool’s price range.

PSG want Olise

Crystal Palace attacker Michael Olise is a shock target for Paris Saint-Germain this summer after the club’s furious ultras gathered in their numbers in protest on Wednesday in a bid to drive superstars Lionel Messi and Neymar out of the Parc des Princes.Although PSG have since condemned the actions of their supporters, who even showed up at Neymar’s house, the attitudes are reflected within the club where the board are keen to oversee wholesale changes this summer. The idea is that PSG will focus their efforts on removing the so-called big-name superstars from their squad – besides Kylian Mbappe – before replacing them with young, hungry French talent.Olise is believed to be rated very highly by the Ligue 1 champions, who considered a shock January switch for the Eagles winger this winter. Now they could return with a sizable offer at the end of the season when Palace could face a fight to keep hold of their 21-year-old talent signed for just £8m from Reading.Arsenal are also known admirers of the Frenchman, who has been publicly praised by Emirates Stadium icon Arsene Wenger, however, Mikel Arteta opted to sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton instead back in January.

Ansu Fati to snub Barcelona exit

Ansu Fati has decided he won’t be forced out of Barcelona, according to AS in Spain.

The Spaniard is one of several players the club seek to move on to bolster summer finances but it appears he is determined to stay put.

The report claims Jorge Mendes has now made it clear to Barca that Fati does not want to leave the club.

There has been talk of interest from Wolves and Newcastle within the Spanish press.

Arsenal’s ‘six-man shortlist’ emerges

Arsenal reportedly have a six-man transfer shortlist this summer and there are some surprise names in the mix.

The Mail claim Declan Rice, Marc Guehi, Moussa Diaby, Wilfried Zaha, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia are all of interest to the Gunners, who are set to accelerate their transfer plans.

Rice tops the bill but Caicedo, who was the subject of two January bids, is also a prime target if West Ham play hardball over their current captain.

Mikel Arteta wants to close the gap on Manchester City next season and in order to achieve that, some substantial spending will once again be required.

A centre-back (right-sided), central midfielder and wide forward is of interest.

Ten Hag raises worrying Man Utd budget claim

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says he still doesn’t know how much the club will have to spend on transfers this summer.

The Red Devils will be looking to make more changes to their squad at the end of the season but the Dutchman is still none the wiser about how much he will get to splash on new players.

When asked if he has been informed of his budget, Ten Hag said: “I don’t know,” he said. “The only thing I know is that Man United is one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“But you need funds to construct squads because the level from your players decides if you are successful or not. High-level players cost a lot of money.”

Lionel Messi next club

Lionel Messi has been suspended by Paris Saint-Germain following an unauthorised two-day trip to Saudi Arabia.

Yet it’s now understood the Argentine could be returning to the Middle East this summer when he could join Saudi side Al Hilal.

That’s because reports indicate they are willing to offer World Cup winner Messi a deal worth £320m to £400m per season to join the club.

The move would see Messi once again lock horns with rival Cristiano Ronaldo, who is currently playing for Al-Nassr across the city in Riyadh.

Messi is set to leave PSG at the end of the season and the club’s supporters have now turned on the World Cup winner, who is no longer welcome at the club.

Chelsea done deal

Premier League strugglers Chelsea have sealed the signing of another highly-rated young talent in Norwich star Alex Matos.

The 18-year-old wide talent has been shining as part of the Canaries U18 side this season and he now looks set to join up with the Blues’ U21 side.

Matos was signed by Norwich from Luton in the summer of 2017 and he was widely regarded as one of the brightest youngsters coming through the ranks at Carrow Road prior to Chelsea’s interest.

All the paperwork has been completed in the past few days and Matos is now set to begin his next adventure in west London where he will have his work cut out trying to make the grade under Todd Boehly’s chaotic regime.

There is no transfer fee involved but Chelsea will have to pay Norwich a fee if certain add-ons are triggered.

Man Utd in for Tammy Araham

Manchester United are interested in signing Tammy Abraham according to Calciomercato in Italy.

Abraham has spent two seasons in Serie A with Roma and although he has failed to hit the heights of his debut season this term, he remains a player widely respected around Europe.

The England international has mustered just eight Serie A goals in 33 outings this season but at 25, there is still time for him to take his game to the next level.

With United in need of a new No.9, it’s a deal that could make sense if the Red Devils are priced out of moves for Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen, respectively.

The report claims Roma are willing to do business for between £35million and £40m this summer which could prove to be a snip for any interested party.
