Welcome to Mirror Football ‘s live coverage of the FA Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United.

The local rivals arrive at Wembley looking to finish their season on a high, in a repeat of last year’s clash in domestic football’s showpiece event. United will hope to earn some revenge and their first piece of silverware this season with victory on Saturday afternoon.

Erik ten Hag could be taking charge of his final United match, with reports suggesting he will be sacked regardless of the result, after an eighth-place finish. Pep Guardiola on the other hand will be aiming for his second trophy in under a week after his team won the Premier League on the final day of the season.

The Red Devils have won just one of their last seven matches against City, and tasted defeat in each other tie. The Citizens have bagged six goals against their rivals in their two meetings so far this term.

Fernandes strike

United go down the other end and win a free-kick of their own just outside the area.

Fernandes fancies a strike this time but it’s a disappointing effort and straight at Ortega.

79’2 mins agoKieran King

Free-kick blocked

City get a free-kick in a dangerous area after Doku is bundled over.

Foden stands over the ball and has a strike but his shot is blocked by the United wall.

77’4 mins agoKieran King

Fine save

Walker fancies his luck once again from outside the area.

His low drive is saved by Onana, but Haaland is offside as he tries to tap home the rebound.

74’6 mins agoKieran King

Double change

Double substitution for United.

Hojlund and Evans are on for Rashford and Martinez.

71’10 mins agoKieran King

Effort blocked

Alvarez does well to pick the ball up deep and drive at the United midfield.

He plays it out wide to Doku who drives at Wan-Bissaka and tries to bend the ball around his marker, but the effort is blocked and rolls behind for a corner.

68’13 mins agoKieran King

Garnacho shot

Another opportunity for United as the ball makes its way to Garnacho on the right side.

He drives at his marker before firing an effort at goal, but Ortega palms the ball to safety.

66’15 mins agoKieran King

Rare United chance

A rare chance for United to break forward and it is Dalot who gets a shot away from range.

But the Portugal international drags the ball wide.

64’17 mins agoKieran King

MASSIVE chance

Alvaraz has to score!

He drives into the box and shrugs off the challenge of Dalot but pulls the ball wide of target.

62’19 mins agoKieran King

City on top

Another chance for City as they work the ball superbly from a corner before Alvarez gets a sight at goal.

However, the Argentine gets too much on his effort and blazes over the bar.

60’21 mins agoKieran King

Great save

Onana called into action and what a save it is!

Walker lines one up from outside the box and lets fly, but Onana gets across and tips the ball over.

59’22 mins agoKieran King

Good block

Doku drives at Wan-Bissaka and gets into the box.

The Belgian cuts inside on to his favourite right foot but his strike is blocked by the United right-back.

55’25 mins agoKieran King

Off the bar

That is the closest City have got to scoring!

Doku pulls the ball across the area and Haaland gets a clean strike on goal but it crashes against the crossbar and flies to safety.

54’27 mins agoKieran King

City chance

City almost in as Doku fizzes a path into the feet of Foden inside the box.

However, the midfielder cannot get the ball under control and it rolls through to Onana.

50’31 mins agoKieran King

United keeping possession

United have started the second-half on the front foot and are growing in confidence.

They are keeping the ball well, too, and almost forced themself a chance but Fernandes’ pass was cut out before it got through to Rashford inside the area.

46’36 mins agoKieran King

SECOND-HALF

Back underway at Wembley!

A huge 45 minutes of normal time to go as United look to hold on to their 2-0 lead…

City make one change at the interval with Doku replacing Ake while United, unsurprisingly, remain unchanged.

HALF-TIME! Man City 0-2 Man Utd (Garnacho, Mainoo)

What a half at Wembley!

United go into the break 2-0 up thanks to goals from Garnacho and Mainoo.

Can City come back into this one?

45’53 mins agoKieran King

Yellow card

The first booking of the game goes to United midfielder and scoring of the second goal, Mainoo.

He catches De Bruyne from behind and brings the Belgium down before Mainoo is handed a yellow card.

39’58 mins agoKey Event

GOAL! Man City 0-2 Man Utd (Mainoo)

What is going on here then?!

United are 2-0 up and it’s the teenage sensation Mainoo who scores it.

A fine attacking move sees Rashford, Garnacho and Fernandes involved and the ball makes its way to Mainoo at the back post and he calmly tucks the ball into the corner.

37’Kieran King

Bernardo shot

City have had a shot and it comes from Bernardo as he tries his luck from range.

However, the effort is comfortably saved by Onana.

35’Kieran King

City response

City are struggling to create many, if any, opportunities at all.

Off the ball, United have been impressive and are not allowing City to conjure up anything.

30’Key Event

GOAL! Man City 0-1 Man Utd (Garnacho)

WOW!

United are ahead and it is a huge mistake from City as Gvardiol heads the ball over the onrushing Ortega before Garnacho taps home into an empty net.

26’Kieran King

Good chance

Chance for City as they open United up before Kovacic drives into the area.

The midfielder pulls the ball across the face of the six yard box but Mainoo sniffs out the danger before an attacker can get on the end of it.

24’Kieran King

Strong defending

Firm defending from Ake as he marshalls the ball behind for a goal-kick.

Garnacho had thought he could spring away into the box and create a chance.

21’Kieran King

United dangerous

It hasn’t happened often but United look dangerous when they go forward.

City are taking risks at the back and Ortega almost gifted possession straight to Fernandes inside the box, but Kovacic does well to nick the ball away.

17’Kieran King

Final ball lacking

City have got into some good positions in attacking areas but their final ball is lacking.

United are defending well, however.

13’Kieran King

Good defending

City break down the left and De Bruyne jinks past Wan-Bissaka before floating the ball into the box.

However, Varane does superbly to take the ball off Haaland’s head and clears the danger.

9’Kieran King

Shot on target

First sight of goal and it comes to United who collect the ball in the middle of the park and it eventually finds its way to Garnacho on the right hand side.

The Argentine took a touch before getting a shot off but his effort was straight at Ortega.

7’Kieran King

City dominating possession

City are dominating possession right now with Rodri and Silva among those having plenty of touches.

United, meanwhile, are seemingly sitting in a 4-6-0 formation with zero centre forward and Bruno Fernandes the highest central midfielder when out of possession.

3’Kieran King

Even start

A fairly even start to proceedings at Wembley with both sides trying to get a foothold.

Rashford almost found himself through on goal but Walker did well to cover and sense the danger, while City claimed for a penalty after a potential push on Haaland but nothing was given.

Keane on Ten Hag

Roy Keane has admitted the situation surrounding Erik ten Hag’s future is “not great” with the Dutchman facing the sack as Manchester United boss.

He told ITV: “It’s not great. There is a lot of negativity around that and speculation about the manager probably doesn’t help the dressing room, but there is a reason for that noise and that negativity because of the way United have been performing, particularly over the last few months.

“Their league form, their performances in Europe have not been good enough. Where they finished in the league was very poor. There is a reason for that, but if you have a half decent dressing room with some decent characters, they are going to have to put that to the side of negativity.

“You have a cup final in front of you, you are playing against your rivals.”

Ten Hag on sack reports

Erik ten Hag has claimed no one has been affected by reports suggesting he will be sacked regardless of whether Manchester United win the FA Cup final or not.

Ten Hag told the BBC: “We’re playing a Cup final, no one is affected by external things. Everything to be worried about today is winning the FA Cup. Everyone in that dressing room is focused on that.”

Yorke’s FA Cup final prediction

Dwight Yorke doesn’t think Manchester United stand much chance of beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final.

“You think of Erling Haaland missing all the chances that he has, yet City are still able to conjure up other players to score their goals,” he told Crypto Casino.

“If he is playing well and taking his chances, then United are in desperate trouble! They need everything to go in their way to have any chance of lifting the trophy – they need to play an unbelievable game with a lot going in their favour and take all the opportunities that come their way.

“The odds will be stacked against them and it could be quite an embarrassing scoreline, but alternatively they could pick City’s pockets and sneak a result.”

FA Cup final permutations

Manchester United must win today’s FA Cup final to qualify for Europe next season but the outcome at Wembley is also set to have a significant impact on the two teams that finished immediately above them in the Premier League table.

Both Chelsea and Newcastle will be hoping to see Manchester City retain the cup this afternoon because it has direct implications on next year for them.

Saha prediction

Louis Saha has backed Manchester United to WIN the FA Cup and beat Manchester City at Wembley this afternoon.

He told Betfred: “I know that Manchester United played well against Newcastle United and Brighton, but Manchester City also come into the game in really great form after securing the Premier League title.

“However, the fact they have those two victories under their belt means that they can approach the final positively after showing a bit of consistency and it’s a good opportunity to beat the best team in the country or even Europe.

“So many players need a shake-up, but some of the players have done really well lately, which is a good sign, and if they win, the manager will be able to grasp what went wrong for them this season and it could be something to learn from if he remains in his post.

“I think Manchester United will win on penalties after a 2-2 draw.”

Guardiola on City success

Pep Guardiola has admitted his Manchester City team must sustain their level of success going into the FA Cup final against Manchester United at Wembley.

He said: “So our team is here and maybe [Saturday] will be different, next season will be different with same manager, same players, same team, it can be different, nothing is eternal.

“There are periods in history, always when you have a long history, there are periods.

“I say enjoy the moment because this is not going to happen for the next how many years.

“The duty is to sustain it for as long and as much as possible.”

Ten Hag makes Shaw claim

Erik ten Hag has claimed Luke Shaw will NEVER be able to play an entire season again because of his horrible leg break at the start of his career.

He told Dutch outlet Vi.NL: “Luke Shaw is the best left back in the world. This guy is so good. But he has suffered a horrible injury at the start of his career and because of this he will NEVER be able to play 60 games per season.”
