“He’s an economical footballer”: Rio Ferdinand gives his verdict on imminent Man United signing Manuel Ugarte

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has given his verdict on the imminent arrival of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.

On Tuesday, it emerged that United and PSG reached an agreement over the transfer of Ugarte.

It’s understood that United are set to fork out £42m up front plus a further £8m in add-ons for their primary midfield target after weeks of chasing him.

Earlier on Wednesday, a report claimed that Ugarte landed in England to undergo his United medical and if all goes well, it seems to be only a matter of time until the club officially unveil him.

An analysis conducted by The Peoples Person looked at Ugarte’s impressive defensive numbers amidst comparisons to former Chelsea and Leicester City star N’Golo Kante.

However, according to Ferdinand, Ugarte is not really like Kante and neither is he a high-volume passer like Manchester City’s Rodri.

Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel, “I’ve looked at a few of his stats, high-volume stats by the way on tackles and interceptions and duels.”

“And he’s Uruguayan, they’ve got that tough, solid, rugged mentality. That little bit of edge he brings to the team I think will be really, really good.”

“He’s not a Kante-type quick, but he’s dynamic when pressing the ball in different areas of the pitch.”

“He’s not somebody who is going to be getting the ball like a Busquets or a Rodri and dictating the play with intricate passes and passing through the lines.”

Kante added, “I think he’s a simple passer of both feet, keeps it simple. Keeps it ticking. Always available, always showing. But don’t expect him to be hitting 30, 40-yard passes. I think he’s an economical footballer.”

United fans will certainly be hoping that Ugarte will be registered just in time to play a part in the match against Liverpool this weekend.
