Erik ten Hag has set his sites on yet another former player as he looks to bring Brian Brobbey in to bolster Manchester United’s attack.

United’s forwards have struggled for goals in the league this season, with £64m signing Rasmus Hojlund recording just two goals so far.

Wingers Marcus Rashford and Antony have also had issues in front of goal while £73m Jadon Sancho has rejoined Borussia Dortmund on loan

Brobbey has nine goals and four assists so far in the Eredivisie with these coming while playing for a struggling Ajax side.

Ten Hag was previously linked with bringing in the Dutch international over the summer, and it seems that interest has not faded.

After all, the former Ajax manager was the man who gave Brobbey his debut for the Dutch giants.

Brobbey turned down a move to Old Trafford in 2022, despite receiving a personal phone call from ten Hag to try and persuade him.

Speaking to Der Telegraaf, the player said, “Erik ten Hag called me and said that at United, my agent would get millions of euros and I could earn a multiple of my Ajax salary. But our decision was clear: we wanted to go to Ajax.

“Manchester United wanted to have me, but I insisted on returning to Ajax. To make that possible, my agent Jose Fortes Rodriguez even waived a hefty percentage of the sell-on clause.”

Now according to Sky Sports Germany they are in talks again, however United would do well to pry Brobbey away from Ajax in January.

The youngster also became the third-youngest player to score 30 Eredivisie goals for Ajax after Rafael van der Vaart and Kasper Dolberg when he netted against PEC Zwolle in December 2023.

However a summer move looks the more likely decision if it comes off at all, leaving United stranded again in the transfer market.

Ten Hag’s history of bringing in former Ajax players to United has been met with varying success.

Lisandro Martinez has been superb at the back, despite a number of injuries, but Antony and Andre Onana have both struggled for form and consistency.

if it comes, let it and if it goes, let it. Man United should use Antony as part exchange for Brian and Steve to complete the £83 we signed Antony from Ajax

ten hag doesn’t really wants things to improve because the problem is quite obvious for everyone to see, you have got to try and remove him or put Bruno in a more restricted role and replace him with a generous distributor of the ball and the rest of the season will be full of goals for manutd
