An AFCON goalkeeper had Manchester United fans pleading to sign him after saving four penalties in a shootout.

 

 

Ronwen Williams was the hero for South Africa in their quarter-final victory over Cape Verde. The match headed to pens after he’d kept his fourth straight clean sheet in the tournament.

 

 

 

He’d made a stunning finger-tip save to deny opposition striker Benchimol in stoppage time at the end of the game – but the best was yet to come. Using notes stuck on his water bottle, Williams saved four of Cape Verde’s five spot kicks.

He went to his right to deny former United flop Bebe, Willy Semedo and Laros Duarte. Bryan Teixeira then scored their fourth attempt, but Patrick Andrade saw his decisive effort stopped by Williams, who was mobbed by his South African colleagues as they triumphed 2-1.

 

 

Watching on from afar, the Red Devils fanbase called for his signature. One supporter responded: “@ManUtd sign him.” Another commented: “Get @ManUtd on the line.” A third wrote: “@AndreyOnana take note!”
