Jorrel Hato is of significant interest to Arsenal this summer transfer window

Jorrel Hato has committed his future to Ajax despite concrete interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

Hato, 18, has been impressive during the 2023/24 campaign, despite Ajax struggling and finishing fifth in Eredivisie. He started in all but one league match and won the prestigious Talent of the Year award for his performances, which earned him his first Netherlands senior cap back in November.

His rapid progress has attracted attention from the Premier League, with Arsenal thought to be keen on a move for the teenager, who can play at centre-back or left-back. United are among the other teams credited with an interest in signing Hato in the summer transfer window.

However, both Arsenal and United will be disappointed if they were plotting a move for Hato as he says he is going nowhere. “No, I’ll just play for Ajax next season,” Hato told AjaxLife. “I haven’t finished learning here yet. And I want to win prizes with Ajax. That was my dream when I came here.”

Speaking after his move to Ajax in January, Jordan Henderson was full of praise for Hato. Former Liverpool midfielder Henderson played alongside Hato for the second half of the campaign, having arrived following a disastrous six-month spell with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.

“It’s crazy how young he is, but obviously how mature he looks when he’s on the pitch and also off the pitch,” Henderson said. “He’s a very mature person, works hard, fantastic player, and yeah, he has a bright future ahead of him, I’m sure. I think he just needs to continue to do what he’s he’s been doing.”

It proved to be a nightmare campaign for Ajax, who finished a staggering 35 points behind champions PSV in the Eredivisie. In a bid to turn their fortunes around, they appointed Francesco Farioli as their new head coach on a three-year contract last month.

“We want to reconnect with the DNA of the club, aiming to bring new energy with a positive way of working and thinking,” said Farioli following his appointment.

“I’m aware that there is a lot of work to do, but we have already begun preparing. We don’t want to waste any time getting ready for the new season and bringing Ajax back to where it belongs.”
