And breathe.
Copenhagen have a late corner seconds before the whistle but United clear. 2-2 at the break.
Manchester United were in total control of this match! But that Marcus Rashford red card changed everything. There are parallels with that mad game between Tottenham and Chelsea on Monday.
Football, eh? Bloody hell.

What a ridiculous half of football.
It was a fine penalty from Cupido Goncalves. And, I have to say, I think it was a deserved penalty, too.
The ball initially hit Varane in the arm. The ref didn’t give that one, and it would have been harsh, but it then ricocheted into Maguire and the England international definitely did move his arm into the ball.

First the red, then the goal, now 13 additional minutes before United can get inside and regroup.
The type of game management we’ve rarely seen this season is suddenly needed in spades.

No leg to stand on…
45+6’ Copenhagen 1-2 Manchester United
VAR seems to have created this new red card offence – where you do something without necessarily knowing where your opponent will be, but when it’s viewed multiple times in slow motion, you’ve not got a leg to stand on. Which was unlike Marcus Rashford, who literally stood on Jelert’s ankle.
Was always going to be a red card when viewed on the screen by officials…

That’s unfortunate for everyone involved. It’s a painful one for Jelert and in no way intentional by Rashford but that’s irrelevant in the rulebook. Misses Galatasaray away.

13! Manchester United need to get to the half-time whistle without conceding again. Copenhagen are rampant at the moment.

Elyounoussi pulls one back for Copenhagen
45+1’ Copenhagen 1-2 Manchester United
Manchester United will be so, so disappointed with this.
They fail to clear a cross into their box from the right wing. Instead, the ball falls to Diogo Gonçalves, who has time to play it back across the box to Elyounoussi.
It’s a good finish from the former Southampton man, but how he’s been picked out there is beyond me. Manchester United’s defence caught ball watching.

42’ Copenhagen 0-2 Manchester United
What a blow for Manchester United.
In the moments before Manchester United broke, Marcus Rashford attempted to shield the ball in his own box, after Achouri had lost it.
But, in doing so, he inadvertently lunged into Elias Jelert, planting his studs into his opponent’s ankle.
It clearly wasn’t intentional. But Jelert was lucky to escape serious injury and Rashford sees red.

Hojlund almost makes it three
39’ Copenhagen 0-2 Manchester United
Achouri is a lively player. He wriggles into some space down the left but is eventually crowded out by Wan-Bissaka, who is doing well.
That gives United the opportunity to break. Bruno pings it forward for Hojlund to run onto. The 20-year-old brings the ball forward to the edge of the box and attempts to flash a shot across the face of goal. But he doesn’t strike it clearly and it bobbles beyond the far post.
So close…

Half-chance for Hojlund
38’ Copenhagen 0-2 Manchester United
Hojlund is enjoying himself back at his own stomping ground. Marcus Rashford whips a cross in and the Dane almost connects with a header. But the ball skims off his head and Copenhagen clear.

36’ Copenhagen 0-2 Manchester United
Given Copenhagen’s capabilities, that should probably be that in terms of United winning this. The Danish side have caused their opponents problems while games have been goalless and have even made a habit of scoring first. But they’re yet to score once behind in this Champions League.
It was a nice counter by United for Hojlund’s second goal, but Copenhagen were horribly open in transition too.
