Manchester United is on the brink of securing a short-term contract with their former goalkeeper, David de Gea, as the Red Devils scramble to address their goalkeeper shortage in January.
This sudden turn of events has left the club in a race against time to ensure they have ample cover for André Onana, who surprised everyone with a U-turn on his international retirement.

With the Africa Cup of Nations set to run from January 13 to February 11, the £43.8 million summer signing’s potential absence could span up to eight crucial matches for the club.
De Gea, the seasoned Spaniard who had spent an illustrious 12 years at Old Trafford, found himself out of the club’s plans during the summer after his contract had run its course.
The once-dominant goalkeeper was even offered reduced terms to stay at United, with his wages slashed from an eye-watering £375,000 a week to a still-respectable £200,000 a week. However, even this deal was taken off the table, leaving De Gea’s future at the club hanging in the balance.
In a surprising twist, United took the unusual step of requesting De Gea not to commit to joining another club until they had successfully completed André Onana’s transfer.
