According to The Telegraph, former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has rejected an offer to become Manchester United manager despite meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the minority owner at Old Trafford.

The former Chelsea boss discussed his potential plans for the team, including how he might revive the careers of Jadon Sancho and Mason Mount.

However, it appears the German tactician has decided against accepting the position, even if an offer was made.

Instead, Tuchel is considering taking a year-long break from football. His decision comes after detailed discussions with Ratcliffe in Monaco last Tuesday, during which United hoped to decide on Ten Hagā€™s future by the end of the week.

Sources close to Tuchel have disputed whether he was ever likely to be offered the job, despite his interest in returning to the Premier League and his admiration for Manchester United.

United sources maintain that no final decision has been made regarding Ten Hagā€™s future, as the club continues its review of football operations.

This comes as a surprise to some, given Tuchelā€™s previous expressions of interest in the Premier League and his views on Manchester United.

Reports from German newspaper Bild indicated that Tuchel had detailed plans for handling underperforming players, including Jadon Sancho, who has been on loan at Borussia Dortmund after falling out with Ten Hag.

Despite available transfer funds, Unitedā€™s priority remains improving the clubā€™s infrastructure and maximizing player performance.

Tuchelā€™s decision follows a challenging season with Bayern Munich, during which the club attempted to persuade him to stay. Reflecting on his time in England, Tuchel said last month, ā€œIt is no secret that I loved it at Chelsea, I loved it in England, and I loved it in the Premier League. It was a very, very special time in England, and I remember it well.ā€

With Tuchelā€™s recent decision, Man United and Ratcliffe face a crucial choice regarding the managerial position. Erik ten Hag, under significant pressure late last season, has just one year left on his contract, and several clubs have shown interest in hiring him should he depart from Old Trafford soon.
