No mask for Mbappe!

Kylian Mbappe has ditched the mask for this evening’s semi-final.

Clearly, he’s taking a risk, given he broke his nose less than a month ago, but he clearly feels it was impacting his performances.

Let’s see how he does without it…

Morata fumes

Alvaro Morata is Spain’s captain and has seven goals at the European Championships across his career.

However, he feels he is disrespected in his home country and has hit back at some criticism from the media.

He said: “In Spain, there’s no respect for anyone.

“It could be [my last tournament with Spain].

“It’s a possibility that I don’t want to talk about too much, but it’s probable.

“Without doubt [I’m happier outside of Spain]. I’ve said it many times. Above all, because people respect me.

“In Spain there’s no respect for anything or anyone.”

Deschamps hits back

We’ve talked about France’s struggles in front of goal at this tournament and Didier Deschamps was asked about it at his pre-match press conference.

In response to a question about Les Bleus’ style of play, he said: “If you’re getting bored, watch another game. You don’t have to watch – it’s fine.

“It’s a special Euros. It’s very difficult for everyone, with fewer goals. It hasn’t been the same as in the past.

“But we share the desire to make French men and women happy through the results we have been getting, especially in a period that has been hard for our country. If the Swedish are getting bored, it doesn’t bother me much.”

Spain vs France: Pre-match facts

France have progressed from each of their last six major tournament semi finals (EUROs/World Cup), with their last semi final elimination coming at EURO 1996.

No team has scored more goals at EURO 2024 than Spain (11), with the Spaniards only scoring more at three EURO tournaments – 12 at EURO 2008, 12 at EURO 2012 and 13 at EURO 2020.

France have kept four clean sheets at EURO 2024, with only two teams ever keeping more at a single edition: Spain at EURO 2012 (5) and England at EURO 2020 (5).

Only Cristiano Ronaldo (23) has had more shots at EURO 2024 than France’s Kylian Mbappé (20), although Mbappé has netted just one of those shots, a penalty against Poland.

Atmosphere building

France and Spain are two countries that are so used to success, especially in recent years.

Spain claimed the European Championship title in 2008 and 2012 and won the 2010 World Cup in-between.

It was a magical spell of dominance, but since then, it’s been slim pickings for La Roja.

However, they are now just one game away from making it to another final.

Meanwhile, France have enjoyed eight years of reaching the latter stages of international tournaments, so both sets of fans are demanding, and its sure to be a red-hot atmosphere in this magnificent stadium.
