ANFIELD, LIVERPOOL — Liverpool failed to return to the top of the Premier League as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Manchester United at Anfield.
The Reds dominated possession across the 90 minutes against their out-of-sorts rivals but struggled to create much by the way of clear-cut opportunities.
Their best chance arguably came in the first half when Virgil van Dijk tested Andre Onana from a corner, and in truth set-pieces always looked the likeliest route to goal against an obstinate visiting defence.
However, the breakthrough never came for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are now second in the table after United stopped the rot after a poor recent run.
The Red Devils had chances to steal the three points on the break but, in truth, it was a match short on attacking quality. The visitors lost Diogo Dalot to a strange red card in the closing moments — the full-back shown two yellows in quick succession for dissent — but it was too late for Liverpool to make use of the man advantage.
