Not far away for Liverpool
7′ Manchester United 0-0 Liverpool
Salah turns it on down the right to Szoboszlai, who smacks in a dangerous cross, cleared by Varane. Good intervention.
Then John Brooks blows his whistle to call for a foul on Scott McTominay as he tried to clear the loose ball.

Salah runs it out
5′ Manchester United 0-0 Liverpool
Mohamed Salah, making his second successive start – a positive sign for Liverpool after his injury issues – looks a little rusty early on.
Now he can’t keep it in play! More cheers from the United supporters.
Szoboszlai shoots from range but it’s straight down Andre Onana’s throat.

Good save from Kelleher!
4′ Manchester United 0-0 Liverpool
This has been a brilliant start for United. The press is intense and high and Liverpool cannot live with it at the moment. Andy Robertson can’t keep the ball in play and United cheer.
Then Alejandro Garnacho puts it across the box to Rashford, lovely incisive square ball.
Rashford shoots first time, brilliant contact and it is bound for the bottom corner… but Caoimhin Kelleher flings himself to his left to push it wide with a full-length save.
The home fans roar their approval.

Chance!
2′ Manchester United 0-0 Liverpool
A decent chance for United, already!
Auxiliary left-back Wan-Bissaka plays a nice one-two with Rashford, neat touches, the forward lays it across the box and the former Crystal Palace man slips and can only aim a tame shot straight at Kelleher.
Scott McTominay was well placed behind him to shoot! He’s frustrated, the Scot.

Class from Mainoo
1′ Manchester United 0-0 Liverpool
Interestingly, it’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, probably United’s best one-on-one defender, on the left-hand side of defence against Liverpool’s key attacker Mo Salah, with Diogo Dalot right-back.
18-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo then shows a bit of class as he holds off two Liverpool defenders and bursts through two more.
An outsider for the England Euros squad?

Having 9,000 Liverpool fans here today adds an extra edge to the atmosphere. They’re in great voice.
Liverpool have scored 12 goals in their last four visits to Old Trafford – the same total as they mustered in their previous 13 visits prior to that.
How those in the away end would love to see Klopp’s side run riot once again.

The players. are leaving the tunnel and emerge to a roar.
Not sure about those United training jackets.
Liverpool’s ones aren’t great but they’re better than that.

Cheers, son’s crying
Oh dear. The ITV cameras in the tunnel pan to a young Manchester United fan, who is crying his eyes out. Poor lad.
I’d be crying too if I saw Diogo Dalot opposite Mohamed Salah.
Hope he can enjoy the experience – he’s being led out by United captain Bruno Fernandes, who is sucking down some energy gel.

Is Darwin Nunez… tired?
Is Darwin Nunez… tired?

I imagine Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez as a hyperactive ball of energy, always bouncing around with boundless zip and verve.
But he appears to be yawning in this picture!
Get a couple of Red Bulls down you, lad. It works for Jamie Vardy…

Manchester United have failed to score in six of their last nine meetings with Liverpool in all competitions, including the last two. They have not gone three games without a goal against Liverpool since May 1977.
This is Manchester United’s 48th appearance in the FA Cup quarter-finals, more than any other side in history.
United have alternated between elimination (four) and progression (four) in their last eight FA Cup quarter-finals and are aiming to reach the semi-final in successive seasons for the first time since 2003-04/2004-05.

Man United fans discussion: ‘I am praying we don’t get embarrassed’
While United supporters have been airing their thoughts in our discussion tab here.
Stuart L says: In reality, the X-factor is likely to be a Liverpool player. I am simply praying we don’t get embarrassed.
Nathan M adds: I know there’s just a lack of options but that midfield with McTominay, Mainoo, Bruno terrifies me.
While Jonathan M posts: I’d fancy any team in the semifinals against this Chelsea team on that big Wembley pitch.
You need to get there first, Jonathan! Give us a shout with your thoughts!

Liverpool fans discussion: ‘Just win, don’t care how’
There has been plenty of discussion in The Athletic’s ‘Discuss’ tab at the top of the page and clickable here.
Jake D says: Just win, don’t care how.
Eltion K predicts: I expect a hard-fought game despite people talking here about embarrassment of Man United. United low block and counter and Liverpool dominating midfield and the wide areas with possession.
And Jason H posts: I worry the result today could inspire manure in the league. But I’m a very pessimistic person.
